The Dave Roberts Conundrum

Dave Roberts must have naked pictures of somebody - that's the only way I can explain it.

The Dodgers get Milton Bradley and immediately put him in centerfield (which is a good thing) but then they move Dave Roberts to left which forces Shawn Green to 1st and Robin Ventura to the bench. I just don't understand it.

Sure Roberts is an above average defensive player but his offense is awful and it is no secret that the Dodgers need offense more than anything. Roberts has a career OPS of just .667 and ONLY 7 CAREER HOME RUNS. What in God's name is Roberts doing in left field?

The Dodgers could have left Green in the outfield and left Ventura at first base. Over the past two years Ventura has averaged a HR every 21 at bats. If the Dodgers want Ventura coming off the bench - then have Paul LoDuca move to the outfield and have Dave Ross take over at catcher (meaning Green is again at first).

The Dodgers could also go young - putting either Jayson Werth or Jason Grabowski into left (with Encarnacion in right and Green at first). I like this option the best but the thing is - any of these options provides much more offense than any line-up that has Dave Roberts.

I just don't understand.
