Steroids and Baseball

IRS agents have seized "documentation and samples" from the Las Vegas lab that did testing for MLB last year. This could prove to be big trouble for Bonds, Sheffield and Giambi if their test results are included and show that they tested positive for steroids since they said under oath to the feds that they did not. (Martha Stewart anyone?)

This brings up a couple of questions:

1. Will the Feds also retest for THG? MLB said that MLB was prohibited by collective bargaining from retesting but no such agreement should prohibit the Feds (except maybe illegal search and seizure Constitutional protections).

2. I keep hearing people defend the players by saying that even if they took THG it wasn't an illegal supplement at the time. Maybe THG wasn't proscibed by MLB rules but wasn't it still an illegal substance? I mean ecstasy may not be a proscibed substance according to MLB but that doesn't make it legal. I don't understand this line of thinking.
