Miscellaneous Thoughts

Just some random observations...

Perfect game from the Big Unit! I ended up watching the last inning and a half on TBS. When Johnson got the last out - I jumped up and pumped my fist (it was completely involuntary).... Terry Ryan has been very successful in Minnesota putting a playoff caliber team onto the field year in and year out on a very limited budget. Billy Beane has done the same in Oakland and now his "disciples" JP Riccardi and Paul DePodesta are running their own teams. How come we never hear of disciples of Terry Ryan getting interviews for open GM jobs?... His name is Randy Johnson and his nickname is the Big Unit and he's not a porn star?... Completely overshadowed by Johnson's perfect game is the fact that Jason Schmidt threw a 1-hitter and struck out 13 to beat the Cubs 1-0... Today's word for the day is "holoholo" which is Hawaiian for "to ramble for pleasure". Now I'm sure they mean walking but sometimes I "holoholo" with words here on this blog... The Angels beat the Yankees 1-0 in 11 innings last night but surprisingly neither starter went more than 7 innings... The Red Sox are back in first place by half a game... Four of the teams in last year's NCAA Men's basketball tournament had a graduation of ZERO... I have to point out the fact that I picked Jeromy Burnitz to lead MLB in HR this year and now he's tied with Steve Finley for the lead with 12... The last NL pitcher to throw a perfect game was Dennis Martinez - which begs the follow-up question of why Martinez never ran for President of Nicaragua like he said he was going to do... Jon Stewart's commencement aadress at William and Mary...
