Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some morning thoughts while I have my second cup of coffee....

I know that there were a bunch of guys who bet baseball and are Red Sox fans who thought yesterday, "I'm gonna load up on Derek Lowe. There is no way that the Red Sox will lose five games in a row." Well the Red Sox did lose their fifth game in a row and we have another reminder of why you never see any broke bookies... We are at war against terrorism and against radical Islam. That is a fact. It is a fact that Hollywood doesn't seem to understand. They change the villians from Tom Clancy's A Sum of All Fears from radical Islamists to Europeans out of fear of offending Muslims and avoid any criticism because in their eyes all Islam is a religion of peace. You never saw this when people were making movies about the Cold War. Producers didn't say, "Oh we better not make the bad guy spy a Russian because we might offend someone." You never saw this about films about the IRA. "Oh we better not show the IRA guys as terrorists because we might offend the Irish Catholics." No - people knew that the audience could be trusted. Mel Gibson showed Hollywood that an independent film (independent of the Hollywood mindset that is) can make huge profit at the box office. Some independent film maker will do the same by making a well made film where the radical Islamists are as bad as the Nazi's were in Casablanca (or worse because Ilsa would have been stoned to death in Casablanca for not wearing a veil).... Bill Mueller cost the Red Sox the game last night with his poor fielding (2 errors). He knows it - we know it - time to move on... Jose Contreras got shelled again last night against the A's. He does seem to have problems against the better teams - doesn't he?... Combined - Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are hitting .225. Combined - Pokey Reese and Bill Mueller are hitting .245. I really enjoy pointing this out... Steve Trachsel pitched 8 innings yesterday for the Mets and the game was still under 3 hours. What are the odds on that?... OK - I admit it! After the Red Sox swept the Yankees - I worked out what the Red Sox' magic number was. Pride goeth before a fall...
