Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some morning thoughts while I have my first cup of Joe...

Sounds like there must be a pretty good story here. Tommy Phelps is a 30-year old journeyman for the Marlins who got his firt career MLB start last night against the Reds. So what does he do? He goes out and throws 1-hit shut-out ball for seven innings (I have no idea why he was pulled after throwing just 93 pitches). Also interesting is the fact that Phelps was born in Seoul, South Korea.... Did you know that gas prices would have to get up to $3.50 per gallon to equal the inflation adjusted prices from 1981?... Darren Dreifort (the pride of Witchita) has pitched 20 innings of relief so far this year with a 3.92 ERA for the Dodgers. Dreifort will make $11 million this year and $13 million in 2005. How badly do you think Paul DePodesta wants to dump that contract?.. I wonder if she also had "gninromdoog" written on her forehead?... 12 of Barry Bonds 31 hits this year have been home runs... 32 players left in the WSOP. Even though it's not the traditional Red Sox hat - it's good enough reason for me to be rooting for former champion Dan Harrington... Wow! Mark Bellhorn is 2nd in the AL in walks, 10th in RBI and 17th in OBP (but he is also first in strikeouts)... Interesting point by the Baseball Crank... The next five people knocked out of the WSOP will all win $80,000. If a player can hold on and be the sixth player knocked out - his winnings jump to $120,000... Troy Percival blew his forth save of the season last night against Toronto. Percival only blew 4 save opportunities in all of 2003 (and 2002 for that matter)...
