Miscellaneous Thoughts

Just sayin' - Mike Moroth lost 21 games for Detroit last year but his ERA was still almost a run better than Derek Lowe's ERA this year... Wade Boggs finished in the Top 10 in MVP voting just four times (very low for a potential Hall of Fame player). Three of those years a Red Sox teammate (Evans, Rice and Greenwell) finished above Boggs in the voting and in three of the years Don Mattingly also finished above Boggs but yet Boggs is the one who has the best chance for the HOF... Excellent review of the movie Troy by a classicist that really knows her stuff and has a sense of humor:
Diane Kruger as Helen might just launch a thousand ships filled with man-boys in quest of chicks in faraway malls, and Orlando Bloom makes a fine, delicate Paris to play beside her. Of all the Greeks only Helen has discovered the mysteries of shampoo—perhaps that’s her beauty secret, and Homer just forgot to mention it.

Even with the current 3-game losing streak - the Red Sox would still be the AL Wildcard if the season ended today... Fred McGriff finished in the Top 10 in MVP voting 6 times. McGriff had 4,436 total bases going into this season and an OPS+ of 134. Compare that to Wade Boggs who only had 4,064 total bases (even though he got 3,010 hits) and an OPS+ of 130... Margaret Cho takes Bill Cosby to task for his comments at the NAACP dinner marking the anniversary of Brown v Board of Education. Who is Margaret Cho you ask? Let her explain:
I am the 50 Cent of my age, a straight up thug from the streets with a long roster of beefs with older Korean journalists and community leaders, who shot at me not with bullets, but disapproving looks and disparaging press. It has been to my advantage, in that it made me impervious to criticism, and I am flak-jacketed and indestructible.

Hate to break it to Margaret Cho but she isn't even the Jaleel White of her generation...
