Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some morning thoughts while I have my first cup of coffee...

The Phillies' Kevin Millwood went into last night's match-up against the Mets with double the ERA of Al Leiter the opposing starter (4.57 to 2.28)... So it will be the Lakers vs. the Pistons in the NBA Finals. I just want you to know that I will boycott any articles that mention "Showtime vs. Bad Boys"... On this day in 1941 - Lou Gehrig died of ALS. With his next HR - Fred McGriff will tie Lou Gehrig on the all time list with 493... The odds on the Presidential election have moved once again. Now it is -$135 for Bush and -$105 for Kerry (meaning you would now have to risk $135 on Bush to win $100 and you would have to risk $105 on Kerry to win $100)... As bad as Derek Lowe has been - it could have been worse. Lowe could have signed the 3-year $27 million contract and the Red Sox could have been stuck with his production much the way that Baltimore is stuck with Sidney "Greenstreet" Ponson and his 3-year $22.5 million contract. After last night's loss to the Yankees - Ponson is now 3-6 with a 6.48 ERA... Unbelieveable - Fred McGriff has more HR (1) than the Angels first basemen (0) this year... Jeff Suppan is now 5-4 with a 3.54 ERA for the Cardinals. Just thought I'd mention that. BTW - Suppan will make just $3 million this year which is much less than either Derek Lowe or Byung-Hyung Kim... On this day in 1942 - Ted Williams enlisted as a Navy pilot...
