Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some observations while I have my first cup of coffee...

This is one of my all-time favorite stats: Did you know that Tris Speaker actually had more triples in his career (222) than strikeouts (220)?.... Can you believe that tickets for this weekend's Giants / Red Sox series are as hard to come by as World Series tickets? I know that there are a lot of Boston transplants in the Bay area but the number of Red Sox fans at last night's game was very surprising. I guess there still wasn't enough to get a good "cheater, cheater, hormone eater" chant going whenever Bonds came to the plate though.... Jeff Maggert is in third place at the US Open. I can't help myself. Everytime I see his name I think of the way Jerry Seinfeld said Neuman. "Hello - Maggert."... If you subtracted Barry Bonds' numbers from the Giants - then they would be hitting only .254 as a team with just 52 HR... Seven teams in MLB have winning records both at home and on the road. Five are division leaders and the other two would be the AL and NL wild-cards if the season ended today... Break up the Lakers! Oh - what? Nevermind... Matt Stairs now has 9 HR and 27 RBI while hitting .274 with an OPS of .809. The guy he replaced, Raul Ibanez has 11 HR and 28 RBI while hitting .268 with an OPS of .835. However, Ibanez has had 26 more at bats and will cost $3.4 million more in salary than Stairs and because of the timing of the Ibanez signing - he also cost the Mariners a first round pick in the draft... Mike Hampton is a train-wreck. Opponents are hitting .331 against him.... Hey John "Way-back" Wasdin is still pitching in the bigs. He made his second appearance of the season yesterday for the Rangers... Break-up the Devil Rays! They've won 9 games in a row!... San Diego continues to hate interleague play - they have now lost 6 games straight...
