Miscellaneous Thoughts

Did you know that Gene Hackman was the original choice of the show's producers to play Mr. Brady on The Brady Bunch but the studio insisted on Robert Reed?... Last night the Yankees lost to the A's 13-4. The Yankees used 4 pitchers (Lieber, Sturtze, Heredia and Proctor) - none of whom have an ERA under 5.00 this season... Hey - the Red Sox are once again closer to catching the Yankees (8 games) than being overtaken by the Devil Rays (8.5 games)... Many of the people who criticize the trade that brought the Red Sox Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz use the fact that the Yankees got John Olerud for free while the Red Sox had to give up a top prospect to get Mientkiewicz. What these folks may fail to realize is that Olerud may not have wanted to go to Boston. Olerud said he didn't want to play for an East Coast team because he didn't want to be away from his family. Olerud made an exception for the Yankees because they are the Yankees (and Olerud has a history of playing in New York). There is nothing to indicate that Olerud would have made the same consideration for Boston...
