Vazquez for the Unit?

Ben Jacobs at The Hardball Times piqued my interest with speculation of a Javier Vazquez for Randy Johnson deal. Jacobs just mentions the possibility but the idea has stuck in my head and I think it makes sense.

This year Vazquez faded badly down the stretch. Post All-Star game he was just 4-5 with a 6.92 ERA. More importantly - this season he was just 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA vs. the Red Sox. Strike three on Vazquez as a Yankee may have been his 9.53 post-season ERA (even though he was 1-0 in 11 plus innings).

Randy Johnson is a big game stud. Do you think Steinbrenner cares that he's 40? Do you think he cares that Johnson will probably want a 2-year $30 million extension to approve the trade?

Vazquez has been decent in his career at the BOB (Bank One Ballpark) going 2-1 with a 3.41 and a 1.17 WHIP. The Diamondbacks would be getting an NL Cy Young caliber pitcher back for Johnson. What's not to like from both sides?

This is one of those thoughts that will gnaw at me for days.
