Liveblogging the State of the Union

9:02 Cheeze Puffs, Bud Light and my two fingers proudly present my thoughts on the State of the Union as they happen.

9:04 I'm watching on Fox and I think I just saw Dennis Kucinich shake John Ashcroft's hand. Hmmm... there's a joke in there somewhere.

9:08 I half expect a USA! USA! chant to break out. Good applause.

9:10 The blue fingers make their first appearence of the night.

9:13 Smart to start with the economy, spending and the deficit. Bedrock Republican ideals.

9:15 Education and raising Pell Grants - what about revamping the GI Bill too?

9:17 Did Ronald Reagan write this speech? Small government, wise spending, etc.

9:19 Ethanol? Is Bush laying a trap for the 2008 candidates who have to run in Iowa? Having to vote for or against ethanol will both help and hurt candidates from Congress but Governors like Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney can do whatever they like.

9:20 Tax reform! Ending the Cold War was Reagan's greatest accomplishment. Revamping the tax code (under Don Regan) was his second greatest accomplishment.

9:22 Social Security - wow this is a breakneck pace. I'm sure that Bush will be hammered for giving a speech without much detail tommorrow but tonight a short speech rules!

9:25 Scattered booing from the Democrats. I find it funny how the Democrat leadership calls Iraq a quagmire but thinks that Social Security is just fine. The Republicans think just the opposite. Anyone who has looked at any of the numbers knows who is right.

9:31 Andrew Sullivan just threw his drink at his TV. Support of Marriage Constitutional amendment.

9:33 Bush winks at the Supreme Court after speaking of activist judges. Heh heh.

9:38 Every city to get a CSI to test DNA. Every criminal to get a competent lawyer?

9:40 The military and our allies! That was rather short.

9:45 Freedom on the march! Someday even Cuba and Canada will be free and democratic!

9:48 Syria is called onto the carpet! Let's open up a big can of whoop ass on them and Iran. People in those countries want the blue fingers too.

9:53 I admit that I teared up for the Iraqi woman. That was beautiful.

9:57 Back to the military - good. We owe a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid but that doesn't mean we don't try.

10:00 Sgt. Norwood's mom and dad and it got real dusty in here. Even President Bush looked misty.

10:03 Speech over. Excellent speech. I give it an A.
