Baseball Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous baseball thoughts and observations.

Goose Goslin has the most HR of any visiting player at Yankee Stadium in history with 32 dingers. Manny Ramirez has an outside shot at that record though. Manny Has 27 career HR at the House that Ruth Built... Is Jeff Kent a Hall of Famer? Consider that he's just going into his 17th season and already he has more total bases (4067 and counting) than Wade Boggs (4064) who played for 18 seasons. Kent is also in the top 75 in all-time HR with 366 (and counting). That puts him 5 ahead of Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio and just 10 behind Carlton Fisk (though to be fair to DiMaggio - the Yankee Clipper did lose 2 seasons to military service)... Chris Young of the Diamondbacks could be be a 30 HR / 30 SB guy but if your fantasy baseball league punishes you for player strikeouts - then he's probably not worth it. Young had a HR and 3 strikeouts yesterday... In the future - I wonder if people will look at the 2003 NL Cy Young Award as being as tainted as the 1988 AL MVP... Tom Gordon's ERA after one game is 135.00. Put another way - Gordon could have a bunch of scoreless appearances in a row - say 8 2/3's innings worth and his ERA would still be 5.00 which is poor for a reliever...
