Nick Johnson

Brian MacPherson looks at the Yankees acquisition of Nick Johnson and comes to the conclusions that A: the Yankees may have a better DH than the Red Sox next year and B: Nick Johnson batting second in the order should replace the offensive contributions of Johnny Damon.

I think MacPherson underestimates two very important factors here:

1. Johnson is moving from the NL to the very competitive AL East (his career OPS against AL East teams is as follows - Bal .704, Bos .705, TB .789 and Tor .735).

2. Johnny Damon is one of the most durable players in baseball. Nick Johnson? Not so much.
