Top 5 - John Wayne Movies

Today would have been the Duke's 108th birthday. here are what I consider his top 5 movies.

1. True Grit
2. The Quiet Man
3. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
4. Rooster Cogburn
5. (tie) The Shootist (tie) She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

  1. Anonymous6:43 PM

I would move the quiet man up, and replace Rooster with Rio Bravo. never saw the shootist, so replace that with North to Alaska, just for the drinking scene (sorry, the I-am-not-in-love-with-her drinking scene.

  2. I have a soft spot for The Shootist since it was his last film. Rio Bravo and Rio Lobo always seemed like the same movie to me (an observation John Travolta also made in Get Shorty)

  3. Replace Rooster Cogburn with Red River, the quintessential western, and one of the few films where the Duke was the bad guy (if only temporarily)

  4. I have never seen Red River (don't judge me!). Every year I say I'm going to watch it and every year I get distracted by life.

As an aside - my daughter is 16 and has never heard of John Wayne. How quickly we forget as a society.
