Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

"Everyone seems to think the censorship movement won't come for them. If you think for yourself, it eventually will." - Matt Taibbi. If you don't this this is true you haven't been paying attention... I think at this point the AP Style Book should require "scare quotes" any time ABC "News", NBC "News", CBS "News" or Fox "News" appears anywhere in print. It's the only way to even come close to factual at this point... Heh Heh... "Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life." - Eckhart Tolle... Oh my God... Here's a modest proposal that I think would make both sides of political aisle really happy (or really pissed). First make both Juneteenth and Election Day national holidays but in exchange move Tax Day (traditionally April 15th) to Election Day. The idea on that last bit is both voting and paying your taxes are civic responsibilities - why not give people the day off to get both duties accomplished? I do think there's one political party that wouldn't want people reminded of high taxes on the day they go to the polls though.

As much as I like the idea of aligning tax day and election day I think it would be absolute mayhem as people try to do both. Maybe put tax day right before. Maybe a week or so. People have short memories.

  2. The taxes would be due on Election Day which mans most people would have them prepared prior to that date. Short memories is why you want those two events (voting and having taxes due) so closely aligned.
