Jokes from the Week in News

Have to look at the humorous side of the news - else you might go crazy.

  • French President Emmanuel Macron sues Candace Owen for saying his wife is a dude. Just wanted to write that.
  • Waiting for someone to write an article about Barack Obama's situation and say that "the walls are closing in." The media used to do that all the time with President Trump. Fair is fair
  • Think ESPN should have a show at night starting the day after the Super Bowl - America Held Hostage with a countdown to the first NFL pre-season game. I miss football
  • Haven't watched PBS in years (don't even know if I even get a PBS channel) but something tells me their next pledge drive may be quite desperate and unintentionally funny
  • Question that may keep you up nights: were the recent revelations that Hillary Clinton had serious health issues including "psycho-emotional problems" possibly be ruled a HIPAA violation?
  • Honest question: who do you think they'll be talking about more in 4 years - Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels, or Stephen Colbert?
  • Elon Musk announced the creation of Baby Grok kid friendly AI as a companion to his Grok AI. Have we gone from kids having short pants graduating to long pants to kids having a kid friendly AI graduating to adult AI?
  • Funny to remember how Joe Biden and his wife Jill literally dwarfed Jimmy Carter and wife Rosaline. My how right they were.
  • Every time I hear Zohran Mamdani or a member of the squad speak I think of the Ted Nugent quote, "You have to let the stupid people talk so we know who the stupid people are." Free speech is great for the Republicans in a number of ways.
  • If Barack Obama goes to trial and gets convicted I want him to be quoted saying, "I told you not to underestimate Biden's ability to fuck things up."
  • Kind of funny that people are talking more about Stephen Colbert now that he’s been fired than they ever talked about him or his show when it was on the air.

Another possibility I should mention is former FBI Director James Comey turning states evidence in order to save his recently fired daughter Maureen who was on the prosecution team against Ghislaine Maxwell. Recent claims that Maxwell was never interviewed by her prosecutors has not gone unnoticed. The lack of interview and "client list" despite a guilty verdict may open Maureen Comey up to charges. Just something to keep in mind.

Cooler Than Cool

"And I wouldn't care to revise any of my past work. If nothing else, it indicates that I'm making progress, still learning, still trying to make it better." - Elmore Leonard

Don't know why but but this quote hit me hard. I review my earlier writing from this blog from time to time and I honestly can't tell if I've been making it better. Some of the old jokes still make me laugh and some of the old predictions make me wince - but better? I've been doing this blog for 21-years and I'm honestly not sure I'm getting any better at it.

All I can do is keep trying to make it better I guess.

Sunday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

The three stories that are not going away despite corporate media's best efforts are; A: the closing of the southern border and the deportations of illegal immigrants (notice all the anti-ICE violent protests are in Democrat controlled  sanctuary cities), B: the surging US economy largely fueled by tariffs, capital investments, and federal budget cuts, plus C: the Russia Hoax story where a coup was attempted against Donald Trump. The Democratic Party is basically saying they are for illegal immigrants, higher prices, and cheating to stay in power. And they wonder why they keep getting less and less popular?

Top 5 Changes I'd Suggest for Higher Education

Came up with this list a while back but I think it's still valid:

If I were put in charge - here's my Top 5 Changes I'd make to higher ed.

1. Get rid of any classes that need to have either "Science" or "Studies" added to the course title. It's not "Political Science" - it's "Politics." You don't say "History Science." And any course that adds "Studies" is not really giving you an education for the most part it's giving you an indoctrination instead.

2. If a person goes to a college or university for a minimum of three-years and four years after leaving college that person is not making at least triple the poverty line - then that person gets to declare Education Bankruptcy and wipe out any student debt. The college or university would have to then cover that loan debt out of their endowment fund. Only colleges or universities with a big enough endowment would be eligible for federal student aid. The goal is for the university to want to give the students something tangibly valuable for society not just a degree that's not worth the paper its printed on in the real world.

3. Any revenue associated with college sports would be taxable. No reason why those big TV contracts aren't taxable. And any money an athlete makes from NIL is also taxable.

4. I would make four-years served in the US military with an honorable discharge equal to a liberal arts degree for all Federal employment opportunities with the edge given to those who served for any job where the candidates are otherwise equal. The person coming out of the military probably has more practical skills and a better ability to follow instruction - why not reward them?

5. With the idea of Education Bankruptcy from above in mind - there's a whole group of people where many if not most have at least triple the poverty level in guaranteed income. These are retirees. Why not craft programs for these folks. Many retirees have free time and interests they would have loved to pursue - perhaps archaeology, geology, history of the American Revolution, etc. Why not come up and market Associate Degrees that would be of interest to retirees?

There were many accomplishments of the first six months of Trump's second term but I think the one that may have the most far reaching effects may be the passage of the Trump Account where $1,000 is deposited into a newborn's account. Many employers say they will match that $1,000 (like Dell Computer). Jokes from This Week in News

Have to look at the humorous side of the news - else you might go crazy.

  • Both Linda McMahon and Katherine Maher may find themselves out of a job after this week as the Secretary of Education and the CEO of NPR respectively. They could be the last ever to hold those titles and it's amusing only one really wanted this outcome
  • Biden top aid Anthony Bernal became the latest administration insider to plead the 5th when testifying to Congress. He joins personal Biden physician Kevin O’Connor. The two should get together for a book If We Did It
  • Think a great idea would be to have two actual clowns in full make-up arguing sports stories of the day as an alternative to Get Up or Undisputed
  • First there was the Fire Joe Morgan blog about baseball - why not now have an X or Substack account Lloyd Howell's Strip Club Misadventures about the NFL? That would be amusing.
  • Barack Obama may now be remembered by history for a joke about Donald Trump gone horribly, horribly wrong. All because the man makes bad, bad choices
  • If Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor - should the Yankees be moved from the American League to the National(ize) League?
  • We used to call Coke with real cane sugar - Mexican Coke. Now President Trump is saying his administration is putting real sugar back into Coke-Cola - so is this the MAHA version of changing of Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America?
  • Serious question: what do you think gets rebuilt first - Gaza after being destroyed by Israel in a war or the Palisades in Los Angeles after getting burned to the ground? It's really neck and neck at this point.
  • Ghislaine Maxwell is reportedly ready to meet with Congress regarding the Epstein files. Suddenly I get a voice in my head going “Danger Will Robinson!”

Anal Ice Cubes and the Difference Between Men and Women

I read a study once where the experts explained that putting ice cubes up the rectums of unconscious people has no physiological benefit and can even lead to seizures and stroke. Of course I laughed at such a silly study. And the more I thought about it – the funnier I thought it was.

After thinking about it for a while I came to the unmistakable conclusion that men were completely responsible for such a thing. In order for the study to be done in the first place people must have been putting ice cubes up the butts of unconscious people. Who would do such a thing? Men! A woman would never see an unconscious person and think – “Instead of calling an ambulance for help I think I will jam a large ice cube up the ass to see if that wakes the person up.” Say that to a guy and the chances are his response would be, “What the heck – give it a shot.”

And who would design and OK the spending for such a dumb study? Men! Do you think they told the test subjects what the study was all about? “OK we are going to knock you unconscious and then place ice cubes of different sizes up your rectum.” How would you like to be the test subject that ended up having a stroke because you needed the $50 the experiment paid?

The California high-speed rail boondoggle project has finally been cancelled. US taxpayers are o longer on the hook for Gavin Newsom's vanity project. Would love to see all of the arguments the Democrats used to cancel Trump wall with Mexico be dragged back and used for the high speed rail to nowhere. Summer Reading List

Here are some books in no particular order that I would recommend as good summer reading material.

Of course you may have already read some of these books and this is not meant as a comprehensive list but the beach and a good book has long been one of the best combinations going.

Bill Belichick on the History of the Scout Team

As a creative workaround, Coach [Paul] Brown asked the Browns' owner, Arthur McBride, to hire the development guys as employees at the taxi cab company he owned so they wouldn't be in violation of any roster requirements. (Hence the original name for the group - "the taxi squad.")

From The Art of Winning by Bill Belichick. I'm a sucker for language, history, and football and this nugget has all three. Another great example of asking forgiveness from the NFL instead of asking permission.

Think it's an important point to note that AOC slandered Donald Trump on X by calling him a "rapist" and legally may not have the protection from such an act she might have had if she did the same thing during a Congressional hearing. She could be sued for millions. Interesting story to follow.

Not sure if the Democrats truly realize the extent that most of their major "names" have become national jokes. You have Gavin Newsom, AOC, Elizabeth Warren, and the list goes on and on. None of them can be taken seriously. If there's a betting opportunity to take any of the Democratic names listed to be the President in 2028 or the field - take the field because these folks are toast if they run. The Democrats policy of open borders and letting in millions of illegal aliens including thousands of trafficked children made it so overwhelming that Donald Trump couldn't possibly deport them all. The Art of Winning by Bill Belichick

"If someone uses AI to summarize this book down to three essential words, I hope they are: Don't, Commit, Penalties.

Over a twenty-year period, we led the league in the fewest personal fouls and fewest pre-snap penalties. Football is a fast game, and some penalties during a play are just going to happen. But penalties before the snap and after a whistle are totally preventable."

Started reading the book yesterday and liking it very much. Anyone who followed the Pats during Belichick's coaching knew disciple and no mental mistakes was a hallmark. The book so far sounds perfect for anyone who coaches sports or want to improve their own performance.
