The Northwestern Fiasco

The Northwestern hazing scandal involving coach Pat Fitzgerald has the potential to be the slowly building storyline that overwhelms the entire college football season. The firing of Pat Fitzgerald has the potential to be a monumental milestone in the program's history. Let me be perfectly clear, nudity and sexuality have no place in modern college football. Don't think it ever did but I must say this story is bizarre.

Not a fan of reports from anonymous players being the basis of punishment for anyone. Also not a fan of the flames to this story being fed by the Daily Northwestern student newspaper. Sure the paper may be doing a great job but a student run paper is by definition not a bastion of professionals. Smacks of a woke university organ squaring off against a bastion of jocks. Sorry - not sorry.

A letter of support from the "entire team" that is signed by a reported 100 players in 3-hours? That also doesn't quite pass the smell test.

This scandal has the potential to empty the entire Northwestern endowment as rival Chicago law firms have a billable hour-fest. Also of mixed emotions on this but do know it would make compelling TV.

The reports are an ex-player was out to get coach Fitzgerald fired. One has to wonder if that player's not the child of Adam James by any chance?

Don't see any way University President Michael Schill survives the year.

This could easily bleed over to other universities. Chances are the more highly ranked the school is academically the more vulnerable they will be. That's the way modern college football is run these days. Again sorry - not sorry.
