Every time I see the canceled check thing I recall coming home from a year overseas to find my bank was bought out by Wells Fargo. I'm in getting new checks and hearing a guy practically screaming at the manager because they had 'cashed' a check even though they had been told not to and the guy was out $18,000. I decided to just close my account and take my money out. I don't need a bank like that. I put it in a nice S&L at a great interest rate and took out the interest every month.
