Re Kevin Kelly's assumptions, I'd say that nos. 1-7 seem reasonable and plausible. No. 8 looks like a veiled reference to our own current headlong rush toward superintelligent AI . . . with unpredictable results, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI think Kelly goes off the rails, though, with 10 and 11 (and I have no idea what 12 is supposed to mean). So the *only* reason to visit another, alien civilization is to see if we've developed a better recipe for Hollandaise Sauce? Really? This guy evidently doesn't read science fiction. And we're constantly being visited by alien probes? I'll believe that when one lands on the White House lawn and not before.
Think Kelly's 1-7 are pretty scientifically proven but 8 on is speculation. Agree with some but out on a limb on others. Some may sound nutty to some an sound to others. I fall into the camp of not being sure which it is.
