One of the big changes I see in society is knowledge losing it's monopoly. It was held for too long by "experts," newscasters, politicians, and others. Now many can see these folks are far to often wrong or don't understand the issue. Problem is too many fall sway to the wrong type. Who is the right type? You have to decide.

The Red Sox won the first game of a double-header to run their win streak to 15-games and tie the franchise record. But then they lost the second game to end the streak. Not sure if my old school Sox upbringing makes me wonder if the ending of the win streak is the first of many disappointments to come or if I should be positive and hope this is just an opportunity to start a new win streak?

Recently read Kurt Vonnegut's collection of 1950's era short stories Welcome to the Monkey House and for the most part enjoyed it. There were one or two stories that may not have held up so well but for the most part worth the read.
Let me get this out right away but not sure if naming a book after what can be boiled down to frankly a rape story would get a green light by publishers today but the book is a collection of stories that reflect the thinking and fears of a by gone era. It is interesting to look at the thinking and fears from 70+ years ago. But again - don't think the rape story as title of the collection would be approved today.
As an aside long have noticed how Kurt Vonnegut consistently used unique words or phrase and defined them in his own style. Or by his unique definitions. Here were two such examples from the book:

I read a study once where the experts explained that putting ice cubes up the rectums of unconscious people has no physiological benefit and can even lead to seizures and stroke. Of course I laughed at such a silly study. And the more I thought about it – the funnier I thought it was.
After thinking about it for a while I came to the unmistakable conclusion that men were completely responsible for such a thing. In order for the study to be done in the first place people must have been putting ice cubes up the butts of unconscious people. Who would do such a thing? Men! A woman would never see an unconscious person and think – “Instead of calling an ambulance for help I think I will jam a large ice cube up the ass to see if that wakes the person up.” Say that to a guy and the chances are his response would be, “What the heck – give it a shot.”
And who would design and OK the spending for such a dumb study? Men! Do you think they told the test subjects what the study was all about? “OK we are going to knock you unconscious and then place ice cubes of different sizes up your rectum.” How would you like to be the test subject that ended up having a stroke because you needed the $50 the experiment paid?

The Trump Administration is done trying to deal with the Iranian regime with President Trump calling them "scum." Think we just stopped short of calling for outright regime change or launching an 800 number "send us targets" for Iranian citizens to call so we can plan bombings.

Went to bed last night with England leading Mexico 2-1 and the English went to hold on 3-2, The USMNT team plays tonight - with Balogun. Think I've officially watched more soccer this year than baseball. Not sure if that's because I've become caught up in the Cup being in the US or that the Red Sox are so bad this year. Either way MLB should be worried they are losing views like me.
