Homesick reading that. Used to go crabbing off an old missing boards and ready to fall in pier in Lafitte when I was a kid. Born Opelousas and raised there and New Orleans. Lots of place and street names in that article..

  2. Cool but I have to admit somehow when I think of Laffite I think of a cartoon character (though I can't quite place it)

  3. Well, Disney had quite a time with him:

Maybe your recollection is from one of those?

  4. Think I know him from history - did he help out Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans? However, in my mind he's still associated with a cartoon. Things sometimes get jumbled up or confused.

He and his force (do successful pirates have many cannon, much powder, etc.?!) were a significant part of Jackson's success. Some historians have questioned if Jackson could have been victorious without Lafitte's assistance. Just think, if Jackson had lost, we wouldn't have had Johnny Horton's song. Heh. (You may not be old enough to remember it.)

  6. Do recall him from the biography of Jackson (also went to his homestead the Hermitage). He was an interesting guy - so was Lafitte who was instrumental to the Battle of New Orleans.

Think Captain Crunch's original nemesis was Jon LaFeet. That may be where the cartoon image comes from.
