DDT was one of the greatest products ever invented. It eliminated bedbugs and malaria in the USA, for a relatively paltry cost. It is completely harmless to vertebrates.
The only "problem" was it was a little too effective at killing invertebrates. The fight against it was entirely based on fraud. The banning of DDT has resulted in millions of deaths world wide.
