Top 5 - Movies Based in Massachusetts

2. Good Will Hunting
3. The Departed
4. The Thomas Crown Affair (w/ Steve McQueen)
5. The Verdict

Just missing the cut were The Paper Chase, The Boondock Saints, The Perfect Storm, The Brinks Job and The Last Hurrah. I gave no consideration whatsoever to Love Story. It will be interesting to see if Black Mass (the Whitey Bulger biopic) makes the list.

  1. The Friends of Eddie Coyle is superior to The Departed.

Also, no Soul Man? Celtic Pride? With Honors? Stealing Harvard? ( these are facetious)

But no The Town, The Fighter? I'd drop the Verdict for either of these.

  2. The Town is a great suggestion. Mea culpa.

I don't think Friends of Eddie Coyle holds up as well as some remember it (like Anthony Bourdain).

As far as The Fighter - I have to confess I haven't seen it. Was supposed to see it with my brother who was an All Marine boxer but family obligations got in the way. Maybe I haven't seen it because of that.

  3. FoEC is one of the few movie adaptations that is superior to the source book (Godfather being another) and it is, intentionally or not, completely representative of its time and place. From the filming style, to the locations, to the casting and the plot, I prefer it even to the more lauded French Connection.
