The thing about LLM (large language model) AI is that it's based upon data and posts that were written by humans who have biases and make mistake. You have to understand this going in to using an AI model. This explains why a company like Google who has a strong DEI bias would produce images of a black George Washington. Biases and mistakes.

Many politicians decry the people they are confirming going to work later for one of the very companies they are supposed to be regulating. Diet of Worms

Today is he anniversary of the start of the Diet of Worms. This was actually a formal deliberative body in Worms, Germany assembled in 1521 to discuss Martin Luther. To most people unfamiliar with history or steeped in religious theology Diet of Worms sounds more like the title of a Stephen King short story.

It is one of the most important dates in the history of Western Civilization but one of the least known. It is important because it is the formal beginning of the schism between the Catholic Church and what was later to be known as Protestantism

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day and today I'd like to remember a hero you might not know - or not know was both a Holocaust victim (his father died at Auschwitz) and a hero.

Marcel Marceau was renown as perhaps the foremost mime in the world. But during World War II he also led hundreds of Jewish children to safety in Switzerland as a member of the French Resistance. He also almost single-handedly got 30 Germans to surrender by pretending to be the advance guard of a much bigger French force.

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

If you are aware at all of the mutual dislike that Danny Ainge and Pat Riley have for each other the rumored trade of Miami star Jimmy Butler to Phoenix being facilitated by the Utah Jazz has to be amusing. The only way the Suns can swing this trade is via the 3 first round picks they just received from Utah for their 2031 1st round unprotected pick. Somehow it's "news" certain people are declining to attend today's Inauguration. Saturday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Last night Ohio State beat Texas 28-14 to move on to the college football championship where they'll play Notre Dame. It wasn't as big a mismatch as the score might indicate but sadly I fell asleep during the second half. Must have closed my eyes during a commercial break and woke up to post game interviews. The Buckeyes are currently a huge 9.5 point favorite over the Fighting Irish.

Friday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Last night Notre Dame beat Penn State 27-24 on a game that came down to a field goal with 6 seconds remaining. The Fighting Irish now move on to the college football national championship game but you have to think that ND fans already feel the season was a great success.

Government Gangsters

Recently read Government Gangsters by Kash Patel (who Donald Trump has nominated to be the next head of the FBI). The book could also have been called "how some people in power use the government to harm real people, taxpayers, and risk military lives to accrue and keep power."

I'm reminded of a long time ago the Bernard Goldberg book Bias came out and detailed left-wingers putting their thumbs on the reporting of the news to show one side in the best light. Of course the media said no bias existed - yet today it is commonly acknowledged. Likewise Kash Patel asserts that the Deep State not only exists but is trying its best to accrue and keep power. Now more and more are waking up to the reality that he too is correct.

"Now, vast swaths of our country recognize the Deep State is nothing than a cabal of government gangsters and their allies, who politicize the power of their federal bureaucracy, the media and more illegally persecute their enemies, inflate their egos, enrich themselves, and entrench their powers."

Be sure to read the Appendix to the book too. It incudes what he'd recommend the government do to fight the Deep State (including moving the FBI's HQ out of DC - a move I've recommended for years). There's also a list of current and former people in the Executive Branch whose actions have shown them to be part of the Deep State.

Warning: I could only read this book one chapter at a time because the abuse of government power and taxpayer money was so widespread it made me too angry to read more than that. Also keep in mind that most of the book is based on actual government documents and actual statements - all of which had to pass muster by lawyers who wanted to make sure there was no libelous or untrue statements in the book.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- I'd support moving NASA HQ to Florida instead of DC. 100%! Also move the FBI HQ, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Energy too,

- LA Mayor Karen Bass cut firefighting by $17.6 million just months before the wildfires.

- Even LA's DEI hire Fire Chief knew budget cuts to the fire department could lead to catastrophe and tried to warn the mayor.

- Hard to argue that Adam Carolla is wrong here. The fire is bad but what comes next may be payback.

Thursday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

The Orange Bowl is tonight pitting Penn State against Notre Dame in the college playoffs semi-finals. Should be mentioned that the Fighting Irish enter tonight with the current longest winning streak in the country and are a slight 1 point favorite. Know what I'll be watching tonight.

The Man Who Bought Stonehendge

Stonehenge, advertised in 1915, was bought for £660 by a man called Cecil Chubb who, mistakenly thinking his wife might like it as a gift, ended up giving it to the nation.

One of the cool nuggets found in this article on 125 years of property sold through Country Life (a publication I was unaware of but take is big in England).

We have reached the point where nobody would be surprised if Donald Trump actually buys Greenland for the US. I'm all for it this move - its the best way to box in and threaten those haughty Canadians. Hate to play Trump at RISK.

Love & Math

Reading Love & Math by Edward Frenkel and loved this story:

"Another joke he like to tell involved the wireless telegraph: 'at the beginning of the twentieth century, someone asks a physicist at a party; can you explain how it works? The physicist replies that it is very simple: first you have to understand how the ordinary, wired, telegraph works: imagine a dog with its head in London and its tail in Paris. You pull the tail in Paris, and the dog barks in London. The wireless , says the physicist is the same thing without a dog."

Keep thinking this story can be applied to different situations too.
