Michael Vick
People may forget but Michael Vick was traded before he was ever even drafted into the NFL. The San Diego Chargers held the 1st pick in the 2001 NFL draft but they traded that to the Atlanta Falcons for the 5th overall pick, the 67th overall NFL pick, the the 49th overall 2002 pick - plus Tim Dwight.
Those picks were used to tale LaDamian Tomlinson, Tay Cody, and Reche Caldwell by the Chargers while the Falcons picked Vick. Atlanta and got 11,478 passing yards, 71 passing TD's, 3,869 rushing yards in 6 seasons before his career was derailed by dog fighting. Meanwhile the picks of the Chargers had 9,176 rushing yards (Tomlinson) plus another 3,407 combined receiving yards from Caldwell and Dwight. Not to mention the 111 rushing and receiving TD's from Tomlinson alone.
That puts the trade about equal in terms of production but when you factor in that San Diego did not have to go through the same PR hell as Atlanta plus additional more productive seasons from Tomlinson - have to say they made out on the transaction. Glad Vick was able to turn his life around though.

State of the Celtics - Marcus Smart
So the Boston Celtics traded Malcom Brogdon and Dalino Gallinari for Kristaps Porzingis and we all praised Brad Stevens. But then he trades Marcus Smart to Memphis and we all scratch our heads wondering what to make of the deal.
Marcus was taken with the sixth pick in the 2014 draft and the Celtics made the payoffs every year since, Smart and his talent and heart were a big part of that. Some franchises would kill to make the playoffs 9-years in a row. It was clear that Marcus was Boston's emotional favorite. He was also, perhaps, Danny Ainge's favorite. When Marcus's mom passed - Ainge went out of his way to console his star guard. This did not go unnoticed.
Did Brad Stevens take emotions out of the equation and make the right play or did he just stamp the Celtics as his team by removing Smart? Perhaps he's done both? Marcus's numbers should be easy to reproduce but his heart is another story, He's played the second most games in a Boston uniform since Paul Pierce and everyone has commented on how he's lost a step these past couple seasons. Two first round picks for a guy taken nine years ago is a fair return, For Boston's sake I hope this works.
To be clear this move not only marks this as Brad Stevens team but also Jason Tatum's team. It makes sense but it still hurts.

Happy Reaping Day - May the Odds Ever Be Favorable
In the recent book The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which will be a major motion picture in November, it is made clear that Reaping Day actually happens on July 4th. To me this obviously ties the fictitious world of Panem to the United States where the currency they use in both places is also in dollars. Don't tie yourself in knots trying to figure out what 12 districts are in the US. Once your get by West Virginia being the coal district everything else falls apart.
Also remember that Peacekeepers in the books were not neutral - they were offensive minded. Not sure what this says about the UN and their "peacekeepers" but guessing that Suzanne Collins didn't pick the name randomly.
I read the first Hunger Games books and was hooked. The second book was good but not as good as the first. I only finished the third because I had read the first two. Never bothered with the third movie. This latest prequel is closer to the first book in the series and I'd recommend it. Lots of twists and turns.
Looking forward to the movie in November.

Now that JFK Jr. spoke about the novel on the Joe Rogan podcast - I may have to read it again. Was I misinterpreting it all along?
RFK Jr. argues the book is about duty while I've always interpreted it to be about responsibility. Maybe this is just semantics and they're basically the same thing? New England Patriots Upcoming Season
One of the big stories about New England from the media is about DeAndre Hopkins and the Patriots. I'm always cautious when it comes to the media mentioning any player because the general rule of thumb is the Patriots don't mention specific players to the media. However, with it being confirmed that Hopkins is visiting both the Titans and New England I have my eyebrows raised. The fact is he could follow up these two visits with visits to the Bills, Chiefs and Browns. Doubtful he'd get the $15 million he's asking for from Bill Beichick but he could use Nashville and New England as stepping stones to an eventual payday with Cleveland. Belichick would use the opportunity to simply get intel on DeAndre.
Also put me in the camp thinkng Mac Jones will have a good season. Last year they put him in an awful position but coupled with new/old offensive coordinator Bill O'Brian, I see him having an even better year than Aaron Rodgers. Where do I bet that?
As far as the AFC East - put me in the camp of the meme above. Don't care if the Bills QB is Josh Allen or Jim Kelly - were pretty parochial here.(Photo via)

The Autobiography of William Zeckendorf
It can be argued that Bill Zeckendorf is the most impactful real estate developer in New York City history. By far he’s the most important developer that nobody remembers. Recently read his autobiography and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in either history or real estate.
As mentioned above, I highly recommend The Autobiography of William Zeckendorf.

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.
Just saying that if Joe Biden tries another hiding in the basement strategy I wouldn' be able to bet enough money against him. Already got JFK Jr. at +$600 just to be the nominee and that's looking like a bargain. Please remember that I've turned on Paid memberships so please Subscribe and if you can afford it I do have medical bills to deal with. It's only $8 a month which is about the cost of a Starbucks coffee. Mucho gracias!
