I'd Watch This

Although even HBO might say the plot is unbelievable. (Via)

The FBI, the NBA, and the Mafia

The FBI today announced the arrests of over 30 people many mafia related in a gambling investigation that was spread over 11 states and involved tens of millions of dollars. The NBA was far from unscathed in the investigation highlighted by the arrests of Chauncy Billups and Terry Rozier.

Have a new post up on Substack about the story that exploded today and will only grow larger with time.

Steve Ballmer is Evil

Reportedly Kawhi Leonard had a $28 million No-Show Job to go along with his Clippers salary and I have thoughts.

Pablo Torre reports that Kawhi Leonard has a $28 million endorsement deal for a "no show" job with a fraudulent tree-planting company supposedly funded by Los Angeles Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Microsoft is relevant in this situation because that's where Ballmer made all his money and he is by far the richest owner in the NBA.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- VDH: In the end, everyone hated Iranian theocracy

- Kevin O'Connor with draft grades on every NBA second round pick. Think he'd be the first person to tell you this is way to early to tell how most of these players will pan out.

- Why are homes in Western states so expensive? Good question.

- This is plain scary.

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- VDH: MAGA agonistes. Good summation of the many hurdles Donald Trump faces in his second term but I'd argue some of these have already been cleared. (HT Steve Layman)

- Pelosi's Taiwan effect. Something that should not be overlooked.

- First Luca was traded - now De'Aaron Fox to San  Antonio.

- Michael Wade: The Career Manifesto.

Adrian Wojnarowski

May the road rise to meet you. One final Woj Bomb before he joins St. Bonaventure's athletic staff as GM.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- NPR CEO Katherine Maher was a no-show when Congress called her to testify. That by itself should be grounds for cancelling all the federal funds to NRP. Who needs NPR or Katherine Maher but sadly this would never happen.

- The Tablet on who is funding the campus protests. Today's must read. Would like to amend my suggestion that any protester arrested who is not a student that crossed a state line be charged with a federal crime. (HT Execupundit)

- Forgot about this - Big Baby Davis sentenced to 40 months in jail by federal judge. Can't be the only one who confuses Big Baby with Kendrick Perkins.

- RFK Jr. says he had brain worm

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- He's not wrong you know.

- Biden quietly sells off border wall parts to thwart GOP plans. Is there any doubt that the Biden Administration hates America?

- Even the Washington Post admits that Ukraine's counteroffensive isn't working. Where did all the money go?

- Noah Smith on why China's economy ran off the rails. To give Smith credit - he has been pointing out for years (as have I) that China's economy was in trouble. Of course you can no longer get any negative economic news out of China at this time (another indicator of how bad things are).

Quotes for Today

Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.

"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." - Howard Aiken

"When I'm open, I score. When I'm not, I pass. I play basketball as simple as I can. I don't jump high. I don't run fast. I don't think so much about the NBA." - Nikola Jokic

"In moments of crisis, one's world tends to become simplified, and people and its events tend to fall into distinct categories." - Bill Zeckendorf

"'He's the audience of one' is what I tell myself. That's who I'm living every single day for." - Haley Cavinder

Boston Celtics 2024 (Pus the 2023 NBA Champion)

Have a new post up on Subsack on what I'd suggest for the 2024 Boston Celtics.

Plus who I see winning the 2023 NBA Championship (relax its the Denver Nuggets). Also interesting to note that Boston once had a Nicola Jokoc of their own but instead of 7'0" Jokivic it was 6'9" Dino Radja. They could use another player like that.

John Havlicek

John Havlicek is perhaps the NBA's most underrated superstar. While I would not go so far as to compare him to Michael Jordan - I did compare him to Kobe Bryant

A Well Deserved Honor

Well deserved but too bad they couldn't have announced this while Bill was still alive.
