Quotes for Today

Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.

"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." - Howard Aiken

"When I'm open, I score. When I'm not, I pass. I play basketball as simple as I can. I don't jump high. I don't run fast. I don't think so much about the NBA." - Nikola Jokic

"In moments of crisis, one's world tends to become simplified, and people and its events tend to fall into distinct categories." - Bill Zeckendorf

"'He's the audience of one' is what I tell myself. That's who I'm living every single day for." - Haley Cavinder

Basketball (and Life) Advice from Coach Tom Crean

Throw passes the way you would want them thrown to you.

Defend the way you hate to be defended. Hit people on block outs the way that you hate to get hit. Be the teammate you wish you had when you need a boost of confidence and energy.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Learned a new word - Gluckschmerz. It's the pain felt upon seeing another's good fortune. Basically the opposite of Schadenfreude. Oh you wacky Germans...  We need to stop saying "Socialism has failed every time it's been tried" and instead start saying "Socialism has caused tremendous human suffering every time it's been tried." Much more historically accurate... Growing up there was a basketball drill called "suicides" which was basically a sprinting change of direction conditioning drill. Given the insensitive name and today's politically correct culture - I have to wonder what the drill is called today?... This is insanity... The Democrats are trying to pass an additional $3.5 TRILLION in new spending but they say that's OK because it will be completely paid for by new taxes. Why isn't the Democrats want to raise taxes by $3.5 billion the top political story in the country? And don't give me the taxes will just be on the rich crap. A big part of the tax increase with be on additional tobacco taxes. Don't think there's many billionaires in this country who smoke but blue collar workers (especially those in the restaurant business) will really be hit by this tax increase... As an aside I'm very bullish on the Boston Celtics this season. The 76ers are dealing with the Ben Simmons hold out and trade demands while the Brooklyn Nets are dealing with the NYC vaccine mandate and the fact that Kyrie Irving may not be able to play any home games this season because he hasn't gotten his jabs...

The Math Behind Basketball

Very interesting. I can't help but think of this technology in the hands of a professional bettor. Can you imagine how such technology could be used in real-time to make millions from in game betting?

We are in a brave new world.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I didn't vote for him and have to shake my head at some of his antics but I'll convinced that if President Trump was a Democrat the media would be shouting, "It's the economy stupid!"... Bruins sign a back-up goalie. Sorry being told actually the back-up goalie they signed was Jaroslav Halak... This does put a different spin on the movie Toy Story [EDIT - link went to a Tweet that said "My daugjter just ruined Toy Story for ever. She said if one of the toys died Andy wouldnt know and he'd carry on playing with its corpse]... Just saying but doesn't Venezuela have a single-payer health system?... Seeing how Rajon Rondo has signed with the Lakers here's another reminder... And one final periodic reminder that "Joe Biden" is an anagram for "I need a job"... This basketball brawl was crazy...

The Birth of Basketball

History says that basketball was invented on this day by James Naismith in Springfield, MA. That's the generally accepted history.

What's little known is the more accurate history may show that basketball was actually invented in Plainfield, MA which was home to Naismith at the time he was developing the rules to the game. But what chance has tiny Plainfield (population 648) have against the City of Springfield?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Bummed the Bruins lost to the Canadiens last night. Will be avoiding sports talk radio for the next couple of days... Sherlock actually sucks at deduction... The story is that basketball was invented in Springfield, MA but the more accurate history may show it was actually invented in Plainfield, MA which was also the birthplace of James Naismith... Super Mario Game of Thrones... Social Darwinism? Is that like Social Drinking? I only believe in evolution when with friends and then only in moderation... God willing - this is my next new car... Donald Trump should legally add an "O" to the end of his name to make his "brand" more appealing to Europeans. Donald Trumpo!... Like a cheese cracker! Jane Fonda was pretty hot back in the day...
