Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Hard to believe but next year will mark the 50-year anniversary since man last set foot on the moon. 50-years! It's been way too long... OK I'll say it! By picking Amy Schumer as their spokesperson is Hellman's trying to tell us that their mayonnaise will make you fat and unfunny? Not that it matters to me - I prefer Miracle Whip...  There is something so satisfying about watching dominoes cascade... Not an Alex Jones fan but it looks like the people who were saying the successful efforts to "de-platform" him a couple years ago would quickly lead to wide-spread censorship were right... Recently re-watched the original Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen. The lead was supposedly originally offered to Sean Connery but he couldn't take the role. Connery later said he regretted turning down the movie. That would have been a completely different flick...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The Shawshank Residuals. Interest look behind the scenes of the movie business.

- Amazon's tactics confirm critics fears. Not sure how I feel about this just yet. Wouldn't it be natural for Amazon to put books from companies they have deal with in the front of the queue?

- Troy Tulowitzki responds to sign stealing allegation with epic trolling

- Classic HBO Shows now on Amazon Prime. YES!!

- More Gazans blow themselves up than are killed by Israel. Yes some people will insist to blame Israel first. Just like some people say Koch brothers are to blame for Climate Change and high cholesterol.

- What we actually know about Benghazi.

- Steve McQueen gives John Wayne a drunken hug

Top 5 - Steve McQueen Films

Today would have been the king of cool's 77th birthday. In his honor - here are what I consider his top 5 movies.

1. Papillon
2. The Sand Pebbles
3. The Thomas Crown Affair
4. (tie) The Cincinnati Kid (tie) Bullitt
5. (tie) The Magnificent Seven (tie) The Great Escape

OK - I know that's seven movies but they're so hard to chose from. I had to leave off Tom Horn and Nevada Smith. The last two films on my list are really ensemble cast movies but McQueen steals the screen whenever he appears.
