Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Great question!

- 11 Oregon counties have voted to join Idaho. They straight up hate Porlandia.

- Subtle, very subtle

- Historical figures AI chatbot is a mess. Still believe we'll have Hogwarts type moving and talking pictures within the decade with direct quotes or close to it from the historical figures in the paintings.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Hard to believe but next year will mark the 50-year anniversary since man last set foot on the moon. 50-years! It's been way too long... OK I'll say it! By picking Amy Schumer as their spokesperson is Hellman's trying to tell us that their mayonnaise will make you fat and unfunny? Not that it matters to me - I prefer Miracle Whip...  There is something so satisfying about watching dominoes cascade... Not an Alex Jones fan but it looks like the people who were saying the successful efforts to "de-platform" him a couple years ago would quickly lead to wide-spread censorship were right... Recently re-watched the original Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen. The lead was supposedly originally offered to Sean Connery but he couldn't take the role. Connery later said he regretted turning down the movie. That would have been a completely different flick...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I wonder how much of Stamps.com's success is due to being an early supporter and advertiser on podcasts... I know it's a serious problem for many but I'm still amused by fact that Yankee "great" Mark Teixeira is the new spokesperson for Depends. Next up A-Rod as spokesperson for Valtrex? One can only hope... I would honestly like to see a Caddyshack III starring Amy Schumer (just so we can get the title of the worst movie of the decade out of the way early)... Why is it "happy as a clam?" Is it because clams don't have brains or feelings?... Whiskey Smoothie would be a good name for a band (or slang for hangover related diarrhea)... Eddie Van Halen has died. RIP to the best guitarist I ever saw in person... I like Dan Wetzel but his argument that it isn't necessarily politics that's causing low NBA ratings was disingenuous. The word China never appeared in the article nor did the fact the NBA will let you have jerseys that say "Black Lives Matter" but not "Blue Lives Matter" or "All Lives Matter." Politics is the number one reason NBA numbers are down and why they will not rebound...

Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

You'd have to pay me big money to watch the DNC's virtual convention but I am curious if either immigration or gun control gets mentioned. Those were two of the top issues when the primaries began just a year ago. Remember "open borders" and Beto O'Rourke bragging he was going to take your guns? I wonder what happened?... Prerecorded laugh track still doesn't laugh at Amy Schumer special. Long held the belief that Schumer's first special was only good because Anthony Jeselnik was writing or polishing her jokes... Interesting look at whether college football players could unionize or form a trade association. Disappointed that NIL (name, image and likeness) issues weren't discussed. It seems to me the best path forward would be a trade association that leverages NIL for the benefit of the players. The trade association could insist that players from other schools could not appear together in advertisements only if both players were members of the trade association. Could you imagine how eager a car dealership in Kentucky would be to pay the top recruit from Louisville and the U of Kentucky to appear in a commercial together? Or the QB's at USC and UCLA to appear in a local clothing store advertisement? That's the players' real leverage... Speaking of Beto O'Rourke - I wonder if he was even invited to the DNC... And speaking of college football - interesting article from Pat Forde. I wasn't aware the the vote (or lack thereof) of Big 10 University Presidents was never made public. Pretty sure that's because most University Presidents know that if it became public that they voted to not have football this fall the hate towards them wouldn't stop until that President was out of a job come spring...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Growing up in the 1970's we believed many silly things like quicksand being a huge danger (and plot device for almost every TV show) and that evil geniuses would build their lairs under active volcanoes but probably the most insidious belief it turns out was that pubic hair was natural and acceptable... So HBO Max thinks an Amy Schumer docuseries is a reason to subscribe to the streaming service? Really? Good luck with that... "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." - George Bernard Shaw... Meat Whistle would be a great name for a band... The new season of Porlandia is going to be on FIRE!!!... 2020 has had so many twists, turns, deaths and unexpected outrageous situations that nobody will care about what George RR Martin's imagination can cook up for the next Game of Thrones book (as if the lousy final season of the HBO series didn't already kill any interest in the new book)... "As I know more about mankind, I expect less of them." - Samuel Johnson...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

At this point the White House Correspondents Dinner should just cease to be out of pure shame over how Russiagate has been handled. This, of course, would assume these folks had any shame to begin with... Sometimes there's little or no difference between physics and magic... Why hasn't Taylor Swift commented on the Mueller Report yet? What is she hiding?... Deep thoughts from Chris - could Dark Matter simply be the leftover quantum entanglements from the matter and anti-matter that was annihilated just after the Big Band?... Cult of Inhibitions - band name or all-inclusive singles resort?... I tried watching the new Amy Schumer Netflix special. I lasted just 15 minutes. It was awful. AWFUL!... What is Dark Matter? Even the best theories are crumbling. (Maybe that's because my hypothesis hasn't been tested yet!)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- First Amy Schumer steals her jokes and now she steals the Black Power protest salute. What will Amy steal next?

- Interesting interview of Steve Perry formerly of Journey. "Please listen to me, I left the band 31 fucking years ago."

- A look at the world's largest battery (and what it's used for)

- Interesting view on the reports the Chinese added "spy" chips to motherboards in servers used by Apple and Amazon. Who benefits from a "fake news" story like this? Using Bloomberg to plant the story would seem to indicate the goal was financial in nature.

- Why peeing in your socks may save your life! I had to read the article and then was left thinking that those socks would really come in handy on the Appalachian Trail. Charge your phone and keep your location via GPS? Sounds perfect.

- Is the Flint water crisis the result of a stimulus project gone wrong?

- I don't think Amy Schumer is a joke thief

- They are like ninja eagles on stilts

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Went to the Pats game in New Jersey yesterday. What a game! Only way it could have been better is if the Pats covered the 6.5 points I layed on them on Monday... This is a serious showing of disrespect... Does Budweiser even make regular Michelob anymore?... Can I be the only one who thinks Patton Oswald and Amy Shumer stopped being funny once they started taking themselves so seriously?...  Excellent column on Ronda Rousey's loss to Holly Holm on Saturday. I went out to watch the event and am still kicking myself for not putting $20 on Holm. As soon as I saw all the freckles I was rooting for her. Nothing like a pretty woman with freckles... The Russian track and field cheating scandal is probably the biggest sports story worldwide but getting very little attention in the US... Heh heh... I am going to add Founder of the Lynch Research Institute to my LinkedIn page. I will also buy a sign saying Lynch Research Institute to place in my bathroom... Soon to be the most popular app on the Internet...

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- So what exactly are eye boogers (aka sleepy eyes)?

- Cool story - why I gave up a $95,000 job to move to an island to scoop ice cream. On my honeymoon I met a guy who quit his high-paying union job at a GM plant in Detroit to move to the Caribbean to work on dive boats. May have been the happiest man I've ever met in my life.

- 30 things you might not know about Cheers

- Interesting interview with the head writer on Inside Amy Schumer

- Heh heh - I think they meant "hors d'oeuvres"

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- NY Post's front page. Only one of those guys is guaranteed to have a job this summer. Oh just as a reminder - to date Alex Rodriguez has made over $356 million. I'm guessing that money will help him deal with the slings and arrows that will be sent his way.

- You go Gronk! (Yeah I have a thing for Amy Schumer.)

- Bill Murray on the last time he saw Gilda Radner

- Batman sarcasm

- Phil Hartman's SNL audition

Bathroom Attendants

I can't think of anyone who is a fan of bathroom attendants. Other than being fodder for jokes (like this bit by Amy Schumer) they serve no purpose. I think at one point it may have been a sign that a place was classy but that day is long gone.

Over the weekend I was up at Saratoga and they have bathroom attendants at the race track. I got to thinking about how unnecessary they are after I went into the bathroom before the eighth race and the bathroom attendant was sitting there eating his lunch - an open faced roast beef sandwich. It was just wrong eating in the bathroom like that.

I got to thinking that it probably would be pretty easy to discontinue the practice of bathroom attendants. You would simply get a woman to sue for the right to be a men's room attendant and get a guy to sue for the reverse. With trans-gender folks able to use the bathroom of their choice these days and the inherent potential discrimination of men's only or women's only jobs - it's a good chance those cases would win. How classy would a place think it would be to have a male attendant in the women's room? Creepy right? And would a guy see a woman in the men's room without thinking "Is she a prostitute?"

Bam! No more bathroom attendants.
