Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

American Greenland would be a good name for an alternative history novel where Trump won his second term... Reminder of how much of a blue collar hero Bruce Springsteen is... Has it ever been proved that Ted Cruz isn't the Zodiac Killer? I mean he must have an alibi - right?... If something annoys or irritates you it can be said that it "raised your hackles" but what the hell are "hackles?" (Technically those are the hairs on the back of your neck.)... Biden cancels Elon Musk's adventures in space. Musk moved his businesses from California to Texas because of state bureaucratic meddling. How much of a public relations nightmare would it be for the Biden Administration if Musk moved his SpaceX operations to Mexico or some other cooperative nation for similar reasons?...  Donald Trump resigns from SAG-AFTRA. Good for him. The union is tone deaf to the problems their membership are going though. I don't think they understand how much his letter may resonate with disgruntled union members who will ask themselves "Why am I paying dues to this organization?"...

Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

President Trump adding Senators Cruz and Cotton to his SCOTUS shortlist was both a wise and gracious move. Trump knew he was going to nominate a woman but adding Cruz and Cotton gave both Senators the thrill of a lifetime and cemented their support of the President...Great life advice - 7 lessons that will make you better... Reminder - a good chunk of Enron's ill-gotten gains came via the gullibility of the State of California regarding how energy is actually generated... The average age of the death in the US is 78-years old. The average age of COVID-19 deaths in the US is also 78-years old... Absolutely loved that the Department of Education launched an investigation of Princeton after their President said the institution was "systemically racist." Love it... Amused by the attempts of some to smear Judge Amy Coney Barrett with comparisons to Handmaiden's Tale. What percentage of registered voters in the US have actually read the book or watched the show? And of those who have read the book or seen the show what percentage are registered Democrats? 95% or more maybe? It's a comparison that only plays well in a limited echo chamber but also the same echo chamber in which most of the media these days exists...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Ted Cruz is advocating for a Bill that would hold elected officials liable for allowing rioters who destroy lives and businesses. I support this 100% and have long supported something similar for elected officials in "Sanctuary Cities" for any damage or crimes committed by illegal immigrants "caught and released" within their jurisdiction...  Heh Heh... Have a sneaking suspicion that the Red Sox plan to tank on purpose this season so that they can justify bringing back Alex Cora as manager next season... Do you really want to get your political views from heiress actor celebrities? On the other hand - The Mighty Tree Octopi would make a great band name... Wonder if one of the lasting unreported effects of all these protests and riots in big cities will be infestations of head lice? Not the most of hygienic folks... Mike Tyson is set to fight an exhibition on September 12th against Roy Jones Jr. As the article points out Tyson isn't fighting because he's broke (he's not). And as I'd like to point out here - I'm probably going to be watching this fight...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Lost a lot of respect for Mark Cuban. Can he even say that the country's current crisis originated in Wuhan China? Seriously Mark could  you even bring yourself to admit that much?

Commerce Department adds eleven Chinese entities implicated in human rights abuses in Xinjiang. Maybe Mark Cuban will offer these companies slots on Shark Tank to prove how much he tows the company NBA line?

- This is SO wrong (but it made me laugh)

- The family that owns the New York Times were slaveholders. That's it then - if you read the New York Times that means you're a racist (as I understand the new rules of the game).

- German leaders appeal to Congress to prevent US troop cuts in Germany. Cry me a river.

- Interesting look at how politics could be the Chinese Navy's Achilles heel.

- President Xi claims Uighurs were being loaded onto trains for a "Surprise trip to Disneyland". Or maybe an NBA game.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Just as a reminder - at about the same time all this FISA stuff was happening the FBI was trying to force Apple to give them backdoor "keys" so they could unlock any iPhone...  Bruins will be pulling for the Patriots in the Super Bowl... Has it ever been conclusively proven that Ted Cruz is NOT the Zodiac Killer? Release that memo!... Holy Cross to keep the name Crusaders. Common sense prevails. I can't think of a single alumni that was in favor of a name change. Changing the name would have destroyed alumni donations to the school... The last interview with Kurt Vonnegut... "Is it wrong to gamble, or only to lose?" Sky Masterson Guys and Dolls.  Seems a worthy quote for a Super Bowl Sunday... I'd be good with this...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Let me state what should be obvious - Donald Trump is a dangerous clown. I'm voting for Marco Rubio... Heh heh - Jeremy Roenick needs to hit the gym... Carl Soderberg has 42 points and a -5 plus/minus for the Avalanche while his replacement in Boston, Ryan Spooner, also has 42 points and a -4 plus/minus but at a much lower pricetag. Nice roster move by the Bruins... Heh heh... Really surprised by this - Troy Tulowitzki ranks first in MLB history in fielding percentage by a shortstop. Ahead of people like Omar Vizquel!... Maybe Ted Cruz really is the Zodiac Killer... Charlie Pierce writes that name Reince Preibus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, must be an anagram for something. But what? Scribe ruin pee? Be epic insurer? Inscribe rupee? Inquiring minds want to know!... Heh heh... If I had a science / physics blog I would call it Particle Man after the They Might Be Giants song... Heh heh - Bruce Springsteen shouts out Pittsburg (in Cleveland)...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Did not watch the GOP debate last night. I have no plans to watch any debates because it doesn't really matter and I have better things to do with my time... Nicely done LeBron. Nicely done... In the end the GOP candidate will be either Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz. I'm OK with either choice... Last night's debate was supposed to be on foreign policy. How come the media so eager to ask the GOP candidates questions on foreign policy are so silent on the failures of the current administration?.... My guess is that either Ben Carson or Carly Fiorina will be the choice for VP. I'm OK with either of those choices too... The sad reality of social media fame. I think you do things like this because you want to and enjoy it not because you want to get rich or famous. For instance I seek neither fame nor fortune via this blog (I make zero from this site). I just like writing down my thoughts to make more room for the voices in my head that are screaming, SCREAMING to be heard... This seems like a very common sense proposal by Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee... Holiday tip - as a joke when you go to a friend's home for a Christmas party replace the can of air freshener in the bathroom with a can of Raid. Your hostess will love you for it... Our allies the Saudis...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

As people are arguing over what the Red Sox should do with Mike Napoli and 1st base - it should be remembered that the Red Sox gave up All-Star Anthony Rizzo for 282 games of Adrian Gonzalez... Cool history lesson - the last battle of the Revolutionary War actually happened in India... Thinking of writing a series of books called The Adventures of Olive Picasso. It would be about an anorexic world famous artist and her yacht enthusiast boyfriend... Who knew? 666 may be the mark of the beast but 01360 is the Zip Code for Satan's Kingdom... Now that we've taken care of the Confederate flag - can we finally address how racist Nabisco Cheese Nips are?... Well played Ted Cruz. Well played... Booze tip - hard apple cider with a shot of cranberry vodka over ice makes for a delicious summertime drink... It's funny because it's (painfully) true...
