Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- A Catechism for Robots. Surprised Isaac Asimov was never mentioned.

- Sounds about right.

- Have surtaxes and tax increases on high earners led to more tax revenues?

- The Internet is real life. "News now exists to summarize things that have already happened online."

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Good point on Pete Hesgeth's speech.

- A piece of mostly forgotten American history. A pioneer in making Nevada one of the gambling capitols of the world.

- From the archives: Retired couple spends year on cruise ships in luxury as it was cheaper than a retirement home.

- Internet costs by country. If I lived in one of the countries at the top of this list I'd definitely look into getting Starlink.

The Day Tim Berners-Lee Released the World Wide Web to the World

You'd think the day he released the files that made up the web to the public would be a bigger anniversary but it largely goes unremarked upon. (Here's some backstory.)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Hunger in the US Army. This is a disgrace.

- Is the Revolt of the Public Over? The idea that it's a revolution or reaction is incorrect - it's a counter revolution and the corrective measures continue. Disagree with the premise but worth reading.

Quotes for Today

Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.

"Disagreement is not oppression. Argument is not assault. Words - even provocative or repugnant ones - are not violence. The answer to speech we do not like is more speech." - Douglas Murray

"A great man is hard on himself; a small man is hard on others." - Confucius

"The more the Internet exposes people to new points of view, the angrier people get that different views exist." - Benedict Evans

"It was then that I realized that your choices come down to either ducking your head and running or stepping up and attacking your obstacles aggressively." - Mike Leach

Starlink Now Has Over 440,000 Subscribers

SpaceX's Starlink Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite service now has over 440,000 active users. And is growing rapidly!

Today may be the first time that I started to really believe that SpaceX, because of Starlink, may end up being a bigger company than Tesla. Starlink service is now priced at $110 / month. That's revenue that comes in every month - not just when a car is shipped. The number of Starlink subscribers will be counted in millions in just a few short years. And a volume of users will allow the company to reduce the monthly cost which in turn will attract even more subscribers.

Elon Musk has a company that may be even bigger than Tesla. Let that sink in.

Starlink and Broadband as a Utility

SpaceX's Starlink service is now available in 32 countries. And the list of countries continues to grow.

What strikes me is if you believe, as I do, that broadband is a modern necessary utility - like water or electricity - people now can have two providers so that they have little chance of ever being "out of service." You can't do that with water or electricity. Sure you could have a back-up generator but you can't have a back-up electric company.

Starlink was meant as a service for remote areas where people don't have broadband access but I have a hunch that just as many in developed countries such as the US will be buying Starlink as "Internet Insurance" because the monthly $110 service price is nothing to high net worth folks who rely on the Internet and for the peace of mind a second provider would bring.
