- Hunger in the US Army. This is a disgrace.
- Is the Revolt of the Public Over? The idea that it's a revolution or reaction is incorrect - it's a counter revolution and the corrective measures continue. Disagree with the premise but worth reading.
- Self-improvement is hard work. Good advice.
I see these stories and I don't question that they are true but I think I know what happened. When I was in it was the officer's duty to make sure that the men were fed and had access to good food every single day and steps were taken to ensure this. The Officer of the Day ate in the DFAC, the Sgt. Major ate there, the Battalion Commander ate there and the food was good or at least edible but then the stupid morons nickle and dimed things and consolidated everything and contracted it out and the only check was the Contracting Officer and if you thought otherwise and tried to maintain the old standard you got shut down and then we went to war and the divisions rotated which they do every so often and the whole thing went to hell.
ReplyDeleteit's easy to fix is the good news. you just hold officers accountable again.
Oh, and the instant it goes wrong, you write your congressman.
I wish I recall the Captain but he took over a ship that was notorious for having poor morale and he didn't give flowery speeches or issue orders - all he did was stand in line to get the same food the enlisted men were getting. And woe to the officer who tried to jump to the head of the line when the captain was there.
ReplyDeleteIt quickly became the ship with the highest moral in the Navy.
