Starlink Direct to iPhone?

The Starlink Internet service needs some sort of receiver. Combined this news with the recent speculation of a SpaceX - Apple partnership makes you wonder if the next models of iPhones will have that receiver built in and allow for native Internet, voice, and texting via Starlink. Take you phone anywhere and still get a signal. That would be a big selling feature. (Photo via)

EDIT: Elon Musk says this report is fake news. Too bad - a guy can dream of a better iPhone though.

- Montana picks Starlink and Project Kuiper over fiber. Broadband has become a requirement of modern life and fiber is only economical with a density of homes per mile. With satellite service users can get service almost right away.

- Navy using Starlink to bring internet connectivity to ships at sea. Is it strange that the press release seems to avoid using the name Starlink even though physical pictures show its Starlink?

Has Starlink Instituted Data Caps?

Reports are floating about that they have.

Network congestion must be more of a problem then being reported. Have heard from a few who have Starlink that the longer they've had the service the slower the speed they see on speed tests. Growing pains or a fatal flaw?

Starlink Maritime

Starlink Maritime is now available.

Was surprised at both the download speeds (up to 350 Mbps) and its cost ($5,000 per month). Guess the thinking is if you can afford a yacht - you can afford $5,000 a month for Internet.

Starlink Speeds Slow in US and Worldwide

SpaceX Starlink download speeds have decreased across the board in the US and worldwide between Q2 2021 and Q2 2022 according to Ookla speedtests.

This makes sense as Starlink is a shared network and the more users the more bandwidth contention you'll run into. It's also good to remember that even Elon Musk calls the service, "better than nothing." Which it is - if you have no access to broadband at your home or just DSL - Starlink is a fantastic solution. But if you have access to fiber or cable services - you'll get better broadband going those routes.

Where I see Starlink being really financially successful is in non-traditional connection settings. Longhaul trucks, RV's, yachts, boats of all kinds, and airlines are some applications just to name a few. Also the T-Mobile partnership is very interesting - potentially you could have cell service in North America everywhere you can see the sky.
