Reportedly Prince's guitar was given to Oprah Winfrey in the first row when it finally came down. Perhaps the best guitar solo ever.

George Harrison
Hard to believe but George Harrison passed away 18-years ago today. Above is one of his hits that seems mostly forgotten today. Here's perhaps his greatest song performed by friends after his passing (and featuring one of the best guitar solos in history). Sad that the song was supposed to be a tribute to George but now also serves as a tribute to both Tom Petty and Prince as well.

Linky Links
Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- A 92-year old woman has been buried in Nebraska with full British military honors for a secret she held for decades - her role as a German code breaker during WWII. Such a great story.
- Heh heh - the fireworks were the climax of the evening
- How great that this exists - James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince all on the same stage
- US-Mexico trade deal could be released Friday.
- Heh Heh
- Ha - awesome!
- And what about Canada and NAFTA?

Prince's Best Solo
Prince's guitar solo at the end of this While My Guitar Gently Weeps tribute to George Harrison is my favorite of all-time.
Here's the backstory of how that came to be.
Here's a story of Prince and Journey that shows Prince's integrity as an artist.
I feel bad that I never properly appreciated Prince when he was alive.

- Wish I saw this when it was time to do my high school yearbook quote.
- Who knew? Prince was a Republican
- The Simpsons were going to do a Prince episode but the Purple One turned it down
- Charlie Murphy with a great story about playing Prince in basketball
- Great Vin Scully Prince story
- The science of why we sleep badly the first night in a new place
- Boo! The UK will not name their new ship Boaty McBoatface. Makes no difference because this is how most people will forever view the new ship.

RIP Prince
First let me confess that I wasn't that big a fan of Prince but it wasn't really anything to do with Prince or his music. It was just that back in high school when Prince ruled the charts - his biggest fans at my high school were mostly popped collar Izod polo wearing douches. I think that biased me.
With the passing of an American icon there were a number of notable tributes:
- From the Red Sox
- From NASA
- From the Minnesota Twins
- Even from PornHub
Rest in peace to a true Rock original.

Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
I've long held that George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps is perhaps the greatest of the Beatles songs. When I listed the greatest Beatles covers I should have included this version - perhaps even at the top of the list (Prince's guitar solo is killer)... Just saying - Derek Jeter may now be the Yankees all-time hits leader but he's still 697 hits behind Carl Yastrzemski who is the Red Sox all-time hits leader.... Happy 42nd birthday to one of the funniest guys in the world - Louis CK... Today in college football I like Boston College (-21) over Kent State. The Eagles beat Kent State 21-0 last season on the road and held their main weapon 5-foot-5 senior running back Eugene Jarvis to just 51 yards. Today the turf at home in Chestnut Hill should be slick (because of the rain) making hit hard for Jarvis to cut on a dime plus BC is still trying to decide between two QB's meaning that each will be trying to put points on the board without letting up... On this day 50 years ago - Bonanza - the first regularly scheduled TV program in color premiered. Many people can recognize the music of the theme song but did you know the song also had lyrics?... I really wish I could be at this - the First Beer & Bacon Festival (on Talk Like a Pirate Day no less!)... Johnny Cash died six years ago to the day. The passing of an American icon still "hurts"...
