Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.

"Stay away from these cans. Stay away from these cans!" - The Jerk

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false-face for the urge to rule it." - HL Mencken

"It's good to know who hates you, and it's good to be hated by the right people." - Johnny Cash

"You're going to die one day, and none of this is going to matter. So enjoy yourself. Do something positive. Project some love. Make someone happy. Laugh a little bit. Appreciate the moment. And do your work." - Naval Ravikant

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Captain Ed Freeman RIP. Where do we find such men?

- Bernie Sanders now backs equality (opportunity) over equity (outcome). Interesting.

- Arrest warrant issued for Bill Gates in Philippines. Two questions after reading this - is this serious or satire? Secondly - the Philippines must have an extradition treaty with the US as a protectorate right?

- Wow - didn't know this. Johnny Cash was the first American to learn of Joseph Stalin's death.

Johnny Cash - The Ballad of Ira Hayes

Think it's fitting that on the anniversary of the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima that we remember one of the flag raisers.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Generally not a fan of movie remakes but doesn't the time seem right for remakes of both John Carpenter's Escape from New York and maybe more appropriately Escape from LA. But who would be the new Snake Plisken? How about Joe Rogan? He did escape LA and we could use the line, "Joe Rogan? I thought he was dead (from horse de-wormers)"... Have a feeling this bumper sticker may make a comeback... AOC keeps getting more ridiculous but the caricature won't be complete until she releases a manifesto... Did you know that Johnny Cash is the only person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame?... "Say to those that are of a fearful heart, 'Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.'" Bible verse or Trump 2024 campaign slogan? (Actually Isaiah 35:4)... Question has to be asked - will future historians dub the period known as the Biden Presidency as "the Quagmire?"...

Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell died 4-years ago (though it seems like just yesterday). Arguably the best rock vocalist of the last 30-years (though I prefer Johnny Cash's version of Rusty Cage).

Hurt - Johnny Cash

Today would have been Johnny Cash's 88th birthday. There'll never be another like him.

Redemption Day - Sheryl Crow and Johnny Cash

In a recent interview Rick Rubin said that Johnny Cash considered Redemption Day to be his favorite and most important cover they did during their partnership. That's saying a lot considering how well received both Hurt and Rusty Cage have been over the years (two personal favorites of mine - the Hurt video makes me tear up every damn time).

Sheryl Crow recently released her "duet" version. Which is equally beautiful and powerful.

Hurt - Johnny Cash

Today would have been Johnny Cash's 86th birthday. The world is a lesser place with him gone.
