Jordan Peterson and Eckhart Tolle - Comparing Two Teachers

Perhaps the best is to walk a middle way between the two. Put another way - adapt the phrase act locally (Tolle) but think globally (Peterson).

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Which countries are granted the most new patents? China is kicking the US's ass.

- Dr. David Sinclair and the science of anti-aging.

- Famous historical philosophers brought to life by AI. This is the future of teaching.

- Doug Kezirian with advice on how to bet the NFL draft. I won't watch the draft but I did bet Bryce Young to be the overall number one pick back when the odds were even money.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Biden's most heartless betrayal.

- Interesting life advice from John D. Rockefeller of all people.

- Hume the Humane. David "Hume believed we were nothing more or less than human: that's why he's the amiable, modest, generous philosopher we need now."

- Heh Heh - and Chicago to shortly follow suit

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- So now is spanking the hippo a thing? Thankfully not according to the Urban Dictionary (yet)

- Interesting - elephants have a secret weapon against cancer.

- An argument that David Hume is the philosopher (and philosophy) we need today.

- I would counter that it is Hume's good friend Adam Smith who is the philosopher we need today. And that Russ Roberts How Adam Smith Can Change Your Life is the place to start.

- 15 skills you can pick up in a month. Already proficient in 5 on the list but in September I might just look into becoming a notary or learning to juggle.

- SEC sends subpoena to Telsa over Elon Musk's Tweets. It's always something in Musk World.

Meanwhile one of Musk's other companies, The Boring Company, announce a planned underground loop to Dodger Stadium. See this is another example why we need the weekly soap opera Musk World.

Rene Descartes

On this day in 1596 Rene Descartes was born. There aren't many Rene Descartes jokes but this is my favorite:
Rene Descartes walks into a bar. The bartender asks, "Can I get you a drink?" Descartes replies, "I think not" and disappears.

60 Thoughts About Turning 60

I admit that I had never heard of Ian Martin - but his 60 thoughts on turning 60 were very clever.

My favorite two:

"When someone starts a sentence 'I'm not trying to be'... they always are." How very true. Just as true as "Nothing counts except what comes after the but." I think you are a great person but...

"[O]f course God exists. Even if God turns out to be just science in fancy pyjamas." What a great way of stating one's religious beliefs!

I also loved him calling someone a "human coelacanth." What a great turn of phrase!
