Am I wrong or is the new plan to pull the troops out of Afghanistan before the troops are pulled out of Washington DC? That's pretty messed up and it's like nobody's paying attention... The Great Barrington Declaration and Ad Hominem Augmentation. True - if they had a case to make they would instead they attack the signers... Remember a few years ago when Coors released a new drink - Coors Light Iced Tea but nobody in marketing thought through the acronym (CLIT)? "Hey guys let's go out and grab some CLIT" - you don't see that product advertised anymore (for some reason)... Unpopular Opinion: I see people talking about getting the vaccine and being relieved that they can now spend time with their family, friends and loved ones again. Truth is you could have been doing that all along... Not a soccer fan but I understand the outrage over the new proposed Super League. As a way to confront that threat to history and tradition I offer a simple recommendation: any player under contract to any team in the Super League would not be eligible for a World Cup roster. You could easily get Britain and Scotland to support such a measure and I'm guessing Spain and Germany would come on board as well. That would take the steam out of the Super League from the get go...

- The Mueller Investigation has truly turned into a farce. Charges against the Russians will be dropped and that will help Republicans in November and give AG Sessions the cover to end the Mueller Special Prosecutor's investigation completely. A farce!

Not all super heroes wear capes. Texas beer ninja saves beer and takes out woman with a box of nachos... I've heard of a high colonic and can't help but wonder is there also a "low colonic"? And what the heck would that be if a high colonic already involves the anus... Whiskey Smoothie would be a good name for a band (or hangover related diarrhea)... Can you imagine being 9-years old and having already hiked the three major nation's longest hiking trails? I hope this isn't the high point for this kid's life... I have to believe that Barack Obama knew the truth about Bowe Bergdahl all along. That's a stain on his legacy that never should be forgotten... The athleticism involved in this move is nuts!...  In solidarity with the Men's National Team - I too will not be going to the World Cup...

It took the Catholic Church 25 years to admit they were wrong to have Joan of Arc burned at the stake. Is that the over/under for years it will take Democratic Party to officially admit President Obama was a disaster?... Heh heh - by  the way how does the commenter know that Speilberg didn't kill him with his bare hands?... If the Earth was the size of an NBA regulation basketball then the moon would be the size of a tennis ball... Who knew? There's a Mike's Lemonade Lite and it's not bad (not as good as Orange Zima though)... Some things are inexplicable - like people who insist David Lynch's Eraserhead was a great movie... Another reason why nuclear power is superior to wind and solar... Speaking of the Catholic Church - there are two living Popes and the teams from their homelands are meeting in the World Cup final. Never doubt the reach and power of the Jesuits!... This photo always makes me laugh. Probably because I've had days like that...

Because Belgium

Belgium can go back to being Belgium today and I can go back (like most Americans) to not caring about Belgium or soccer.

So work pretty much ends for the week about 3: EST today. The USA plays Belgium at 4:00 and people will need an hour or so to get where they will watch the match then the 4th holiday is upon us. Yup - pretty much done for the week after 3:00... Mick Jagger calls the kettle black... I like the idea of making free throws worth 2 points but then subtracting 1 point for every missed free throw... Heh heh - how to shotgun a beer... Product idea - hangover cereal fortified with Advil and caffeine... The silent one in Penn and Teller legally changed his name from Raymond Joseph Teller to just Teller...

- Heh heh - this reflects my attitude to US soccer and the World Cup almost exact. As an aside - 99% of the time you see the word "whinging" in print it seems to be in relation to soccer. That's an indictment all on its own.

Soccer Match Fixing

Interesting look at how easy it was/is to fix World Cup exhibition games. Can't say I'm surprised. When you have an organization so obviously corrupt like FIFA - it is almost expected that the whole of the organization would be corrupt. As they say a fish stinks from the head down. Two years to even begin investigation allegations. No permanent suspensions or criminal charges in obviously fixed games. Way to go FIFA!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone out there. In order to help keep the day in it's proper perspective - here are 10 Things to Remember About Memorial Day... I am shocked — shocked! — to find corruption going on in FIFA! Not a big soccer fan myself but I do remember my reaction to the news that Qatar was being awarded the World Cup. So how does a tiny country in an inhospitable part of the world with a repressive Islamic government get a World Cup? Anyone with half a brain knew that big bribes were involved... Heh heh - this always cracks me up. The Count's Song... Who knew? In the Mad Max movies - Mel Gibson's character's last name is Rockatansky. From now on Max Rockatansky is my new fake name. If you hear Max Rockatanski being paged over a PA somewhere - chances are that's just me screwing around... Why can't this happen to me?... How come you don't see Code Pink organizing human shields to prevent additional US bombing in Libya?... Only 3 players ahead of Derek Jeter for all-time runs scored are not in Hall of Fame - Barry Bonds, Pete Rose and Craig Biggio. Likewise, only 3 people ahead of Jeter for all-time hits - Pete Rose, Rafael Palmeiro and Craig Biggio - are not in Hall of Fame. Is there any question in anyone's mind that Jeter is not a Hall of Fame player?... An interesting look back on the he first Indy 500.

Qatar and the World Cup - the Day the US Stood Still

Honest to god - my first thought when I heard Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup was, "Gort! Qatar barada nikto!"

The correct pronunciation of Qatar falls between cutter and gutter, but not like guitar. Their oil and natural gas revenues have enabled Qatar to attain the second-highest per capita income in the world - only Luxembourg is higher. You can bet that some of that revenue went to "buying" the 2022 World Cup. Then throw into the mix that Qatar is slightly smaller than Connecticut.

So in short you have the 2022 World Cup going to a place that is smaller than Connecticut, is 95% sand, where a monarchic despot rules with a religious ban on alcohol and is a place that nobody is really sure how to pronounce.

Perfect!

On a serious note - it is probably a good thing the US didn't get the nod. These things are often more trouble then they are worth.

That means I want growth-oriented tax policies, a strong, secure national defense, limited government and maximum individual liberty. That quote was from Peter Hannaford from 2003. It just seemed to crystallize my own political beliefs so well that I wanted to share it... Great story on Daniel Nava by Gordon Edes... People think that Andy Kaufman or Jim Morrison may have faked their deaths. Wouldn't it be funny if guy who faked his own death turns out to be Ted Knight?... Battleship - awesome game... Just as an FYI - "Britney Spears" is an anagram for “Presbyterians.”
