More Linky Links

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The assassination in Minnesota gets more and more crazy with each new detail.

- Is the US shipbuilding capacity in crisis? The capacity is still there but the incentives are not.

- Does college football's calendar need an overhaul? Nobody asked me but I'd be in favor of two transfer portals - one in late January for football and other fall sports and one in April for basketball and the rest of the sports.

- A woke Jefferson Memorial? Hell no! (And I'm no Thomas Jefferson fan.)

"To know what life is worth you have to risk it once and a while." - Jean-Paul Sartre

"There are so goddamn many ways to be a fool that a man can't expect to avoid them all." - Ivan Doig

"You live in a deranged age - more deranged than usual, despite great scientific and technological  advances, man has no idea of who he is or what he's doing!" - Walker Percy

"This woke-mind virus resides primarily in the Democratic Party, even though most Dems don't agree with it." - Elon Musk

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- 14 American cities that want to "target" real meat and dairy along with cars for elimination by 2030. Sad that Boston is on the list but no way I'm making plans to visit any of these. No more Fenway Park or TD Garden for me I guess.

- The movie The Usual Suspects came out 28-years go this week. Michael Biehn in the Stephen Baldwin role would have been an interesting change. In German-Turkish Kyser Soze can be loosely translated as "King of the Talkers" thus the name "Verbal" Kint. Get it?

- Tucker Carlson met with the President of Serbia. Have to admit that Tucker does laugh like a goofball.

- Matt Taibbi on the Orwellian change to the meaning of the word "transparency"

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Optical computing could be more impactful than flying or self-driving cars. We're close!

- Kirk Cameron's Story Hour cancelled over "crowd capacity" concerns. Would normally give the library the benefit of the doubt (especially in Huntsville) but that a larger auditorium was not suggested gives me pause. Those attending the event should be encouraged to run for library board seats.

- Reminder

- Nice profile of Calvin Coolidge. Think we will start seeing more candidates like Coolidge as the pendulum has swung back in his direction.

Slavery and Woke Culture

Have a post up on Substack describing how the two may have more in common than you think.

My conclusion is worth repeating:

Reminder that nobody had the right to impose the institution of slavery upon another free person just as no one has the right to impose their religion upon another. We would not accept a version of Christianity or Islam imposed upon us - so why would we be forced to accept versions of woke culture?
