Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The best antidepressant. We all know we need to exercise more often.

- This is the way.

- Congress funded $516 billion on expired programs in 2024. And there's 251 more that are set to expire in 2025.

- Look at the wasteful spending to universities. That's almost 26% of the grant money and you can be sure all of these universities receiving grants were towing the government lines across the board.

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Steven Pressfield on Lawrence of Arabia's motorcycle (and the rules of Ins and Outs)

- Interesting poker tip

- Democrats "fire back" at Trump's new Mexican NAFTA agreement. I'm not sure that Democrats really want to be seen blocking a new NAFTA deal. How would that help them with Mexican-American voters and the optics of being obstructionists plays right into Trump's hands. "They don't want free trade, they want to raise taxes, they have no plans of their own, they just want to block any progress, etc."

- "The Right Trousers" wearable technology that can help the elderly with mobility issues. Not quite "bionic pants" but we're getting there.

- Long read interview of Paul McCartney in GQ. Worth the time.

- Price gouging in college education and hospital services.

- Good God! They're turning the movie into a documentary! Damn you Dick Cheney and your weather machine!

Top Schools of Rock

According to Spinner - here are the top 20 Universities Rated for Their Musical Alumni.

On a local level - UMass is No. 18. Worcester Polytech (WPI) could have made the list for J. Geils and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) could have made the list for Talking Heads but how in the world was the Berklee College of Music in Boston not listed?

Here's a partial list of their alumni - Bruce Cockburn, Paula Cole, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Melissa Etheridge, Kevin Eubanks of The Tonight Show, Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, Bruce Hornsby, Quincy Jones, Joey Kramer of Aerosmith, Aimee Mann of 'Til Tuesday, Branford Marsalis, John Mayer, Pat Metheny, and prancing pony Billy Squier.

You could make an argument for them being number one. For them not to be on this list at all just says that Spinner is clueless.
