Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- VDH on Biden's Border Blowup.

- Analysis true!

- Leo Varadkar vs the People. The Irish Justin Trudeau.

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Some good background reading on the Murthy v Missouri censorship case in front of the Supreme Court. I was expecting a verdict shortly but reportedly that's not due till June.

- Bari Weiss on ending DEI (HT Execupundit)

- Ireland's PM unexpectantly resigns. Surprising but his woke language was just badly rebuked by the entire nation (not mentioned in the article).

- Interesting. Texas removes $8.5 billion investment from Blackrock. Can the lawsuits be far behind?

The Oldest Company in Most European Nations

Love that the oldest company in Ireland is a bar. That seems fitting. (Via)

Cool History

European civilization is built on ham and cheese? Fascinating hypothesis. Read it twice and still unclear where the ham comes in. Was vellum made out of pig skin too?

Wonder what this means for the hypothesis that it was the Irish who saved civilization. I'm guessing they both can be true.

Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Would not be surprised if this Sunday we saw an option pass from Julian Edelman to Cam Newton against the Chiefs. And if not this Sunday then sometime this season... NBA ratings fall off a cliff. And the viewers aren't coming back. They are DONE with the NBA. Go woke go broke... Am I the only one who would like to see miniature pony chariot races on TV?... Irish Supreme Court rules that Subway sandwiches contain "too much sugar" to legally be considered to be bread. Got to love the Irish!... It has been almost a year since Daryl Morey GM of the Houston Rockets tweeted out his support for a free Hong Kong. In the wake of the Wuhan virus the plight of Hong Kong and their subjugation by China seems to be all but forgotten in this country. That is a shame and that shame belongs to all of the free world. Don't trust China - China is asshole!...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

In August Ireland had 70 deaths related to alcohol, and 32 deaths from suicide with 0 deaths from COVID-19. I would argue that many of those suicides and alcohol related deaths probably while not officially COVID-19 related actually were exacerbated by the lockdown... Feel that this short essay "I Never Cared" will resonate with many people... Love the acronym WEIRD for countries like the US and Canada (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic). WEIRD nations (and people) should stick together... The headline reads "Europe Just Declared Independence from China." Not sure if I'd go that far but it is clear that China has badly over-played their hand... Excellent point - John Cleese: Can you tell me a woke joke? Guessing if such a joke exists the punchline would have to do with either Trump or older white men...

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Hong Kong in Ireland? That would be cool but you'd think Australia would be the natural landing spot given the proximity.

- 14 colleges in New York likely to "perish" in coronavirus pandemic. List includes names like Fordham and Hofstra and St John's.

- Over 100 police agencies reportedly pull out of agreements to guard DNC Convention in Milwaukee. Why would any police officers want to be at a place where they are not wanted or valued?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I still don't see why Michele Obama would agree to be on Joe Biden's ticket. Then again I didn't see why Tom Brady would want to play for any franchise other than the Patriots... This post on Things We're Missing sums up my feelings pretty well. Though in my own personal case I'd replace church with playing pool, seeing live music and golf (don't judge me)... "Sin that pays its way can travel freely, and without a passport; whereas Virtue, if a pauper, is stopped at all frontiers." - Herman Melville... Don't judge me... There's not much enthusiasm for Joe Biden and outside of Michele Obama there probably won't be much enthusiasm for whoever is picked as VP. None of the women who campaigned for President had much support (otherwise they wouldn't have lost to the desiccated husk of Biden to begin with). And Hillary? She would negatively impact his appeal. The only outside the box solution I can see is Tulsi Gabbard but the DNC would never allow that. The lack of enthusiasm could really harm the down-ticket Democrat candidates... The Irish have long memories...
