Hypothesis: if AOC hadn't chased away the proposed Amazon East Coast HQ and the 25,000 plus jobs it would have brought many people would have moved to or stayed in NYC and New York wouldn't be losing a Congressional seat. Just saying... Really enjoyed the Marvel series Falcon and the Winter Soldier but I kept having the thought how amusing it would be to print up bumper stickers that replaces the Flag Smashers logo with the DNC logo to re-use the "One World. One People." catch-phrase... Heh Heh... Explanatory Knowledge would be a good name for a blog... Truth be told - I'm a little disappointed 2020 didn't actually give us murder hornets... So the Oscars were watched by just 9.85 million people. That means Hollywood's signature event now just has ratings slightly better that this year's Peach Bowl which "pitted" Georgia against Cincinnati (hardly a marque bowl game). That game was watched by almost 9 million...

Democratic National Convention

The 2020 Democratic National Convention is supposed to start on Monday August 17th and end on Thursday August 20th in Milwaukee. How long before it is announced that the convention will be "cancelled"?

COVID-19 will surely be blamed and the DNC will try to turn this into a virtual event but how many people will want to tune in to watch that?

The DNC probably wants to avoid having Joe Biden speak for any length of time at all costs but at the same time they need a national stage and a big audience to launch the Party's VP pick. That VP pick may be the DNC's only hope at avoiding a down-ticket bloodbath in November.

At the same time cancelling the event makes sense in that the DNC also knows an in-person event will devolve quickly into a BLM, Defund the Police, Green New Deal orgy broadcast on national TV with most likely a sideshow of protests and violence. Chicago 1968 anyone?

Get the popcorn out. This will be interesting to watch.

Do you think when George Conway now shaves in the morning he looks in the mirror and asks himself, "Do I really have a moonface? Damn it! I do have a moonface don't I"... Trump ratchets up the pressure on China's economy. Not a fan of the name "Economic Prosperity Network" and I'd also expand the group to include Mexico and Brazil since some manufacturers may wish to move back to or at least closer to the US... "First and above all else, you must secure life, liberty and the right to pursue your own happiness. That's politics done right, hard earned, often by war." - a Charles Krauthammer quote that seems appropriate today... Very quietly Israel has been kicking Iran's ass in Syria. "The Israeli officials refused to comment on these reported attacks, maintaining Israel's policy of ambiguity, under which it generally acknowledges taking action against Iran in Syria without specifically confirming individual strikes"... The Democratic Convention in August is shaping up to be very entertaining. You have certain Dems mumbling that Joe Biden shouldn't be the candidate because of his mental decline while others say Biden should withdraw because of the Tara Reade allegations. The hardcore Bernie Bros will be vocal that Bernie Sanders should be the candidate if Biden withdraws while the Democratic establishment will do anything to keep that from happening. Then you'd have all the women and their supporters of those who were not picked to be on the ticket. Look for many of them to refind their "Me Too" religion. Would anyone be surprised that the DNC actually hopes to cancel the circus that will be their Convention this year? Get the popcorn out... What Did They Ignore and When Did They Ignore It?

Guessing that most working journalists today, if you asked them, would say that the movie All the President's Men is in their all-time Top 10's. Many would also probably credit that movie for why they got into journalism in the first place. Yet somehow the key journalistic lessons from the movie of "what did they know and when did they know it" and especially "follow the money" suddenly disappear when it comes to stories about Democrat politicians or China.

These "journalists" who grew up with visions of being the next Woodward or Bernstein suddenly become Helen Keller when those two subjects are broached. And then they wonder why most Americans view them with such distrust. And for many - disgust.

15-years ago the New York Times actually had the headline "Can Angelina Jolie Really Save the World?" And it was in the business section! Just in case you were wondering if the NYT giving up on being a serious news organization was a new thing... This is the sort of thing that makes you believe peace in the Middle East is actually possible... Who knew? Richard Nixon and Otis Nixon shared the same birthday... A Christopher Hitchens quote that seems very relevant to the Impeachment hearings, "That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence"... A racial crisis may materialize in two years for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Both steroids tainted Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have two years of eligibility left to be elected to the Hall. If the white Clemens gets somehow elected at the last minute while the black Barry Bonds does not then the cries of "Racism!" will be loud and clear. And probably not wrong... If the DNC really wanted to stick it to Bernie Sanders they could insure that someone at the next Democratic Debate asks Bernie if he's elected would he make his wife Secretary of Education...

What a Difference a Year Makes

What a difference a year makes. Just a reminder of how smug certain people were.

A year later and that smugness is being replaced by the hard reality that Barack Obama instead of saving the Democratic Party may have destroyed it. And that the person "trusted" to lead the Party after Obama has issued the following apology:

OK that last bit was "Fake news" but not too much of a stretch when you think about it.

I'm no Trump supporter but I do understand the feeling of those who believe that no matter how "unfit" Trump may be to be President - he's still preferable to letting the smug kleptocrats run the country.

Donna Brazile vs Hillary Clinton

Very interesting development yesterday as an excerpt of Donna Brazile's upcoming book caused a firestorm. Basically Brazile asserts Hillary Clinton and her campaign took over the Democratic Party long before the primaries even started. They used the promise of erasing Barack Obama's campaign debt to sideline him (and Joe Biden) and then turned the DNC into a fundraising machine as a way to funnel millions into the Clinton campaign coffers.

Think of it like this. Guy currently running waste management company runs up a big gambling debt. The mafia forgives the gambling debt in exchange for control over the waste management company. The guy running the company is retiring anyway and doesn't want that debt hanging over his head and the mafia wants a way to launder money. It was pretty much like that - except supposedly legal. The Bernie Bros must be - and should be pissed off today.

I say supposedly legal because this arrangement could be a big reason why the DNC refused to turn their email server over to the FBI after they claimed they were hacked. The DNC didn't want the fact they were being run by Hillary Clinton exposed any more than the mafia would want it publicly known that they were running a waste management company. My guess is Clinton Campaign also wasn't 100% sure what they were doing actually was legal.

Part of me thinks this scheme was reminiscent of Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury having the Federal Government assume the Revolutionary War debts of the States in exchange for the States supporting the Federal Government. But then I remember that Hillary Clinton is much more like Uncle Junior than Alexander Hamilton.

All I know is that it is going to be very awkward if Donna Brazile and Hillary Clinton get booked to do book signings at the same Costco.

I've said it before but if the Israelis were to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities - during or right before President Obama's speech at the DNC would be the perfect time... Good advice for poker players - how to play Ace/King if you miss the flop... I have to guess that the TV ratings on NESN for this West Coast swing by the Red Sox will be the worst since the new ownership bought the team. There is simply no reason to watch this lousy team full of malcontents... Some people poke fun of the US Coast Guard and others always seem to forget them when it comes to thinking of branches of the US military. I have to wonder though - if you took the Coast Guard on its own - I'm guessing it is bigger than the military's of half the nations of the world... Another example of why Johnny Carson was the King. It is sad that his memory seems to be fading... Protesters dressed as giant vaginas at the RNC. I'm guessing that if male protesters dressed as giant penises at the DNC - they'd get arrested. Seriously - Karl Rove get on this. Pay some frat guys a few hundred to dress up as giant penises (not much of a stretch for many of them) and then put out press releases about the war on men and a man's reproductive rights. So let it be written - so let it be done.
