Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The financial historian. Will have to check this channel out.

- To Democrats the Save Act is political kryptonite.

- The sanctioned / stateless tanker nabbing gives - if we are willing to take.

- Newsweek: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell faces calls to be fired. People calling for Goodell to be fired are painted as fringe but as I've pointed out an empty suit could do a better job with less controversy.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- VDH on A Decade of Conspiracists? Time for people to be held accountable.

- Not to be lost in all the politics - the Brian Flores lawsuit may finally put an end to the NFL's legal arbitration under Roger Goodell. Really rooting for Flores on this one.

- Musburger Media purchases VSiN. Was unaware they network was previously owned by DratKings.

- Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Democrats reap what they sow. The DNC - crazy on a ship of fools.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Cheating is becoming the norm in college. Combined with rampant grade inflation and you have college degrees becoming increasingly worthless.

- The successful man's path to lasting satisfaction,

- Matt Ridley on how the virus probably came from a lab in Wuhan and how the clampdown on honest debate has been nothing short of shameful. Refusing to call it the Wuhan Virus was also shameful.

- How a disputed $55 million loan plays into the fed's investigation of Daniel Snyder and the Commanders. Fascinating read on how a potentially fraudulently obtained $55 million loan could send Snyder to jail and maybe end Roger Goodell's tenure as Commissioner (Goodell approved the transaction).

Jon Gruden's Lawsuit Against the NFL

Unless the NFL has a successful appeal, a judge has ruled that Jon Gruden's lawsuit against the NFL may proceed. This means, "Documents and other information will be requested by Gruden. Depositions of key individuals, such as [Roger] Goodell and Commanders owner Daniel Snyder, will be arranged."

This is the last thing either the NFL or Daniel Snyder need right now. Here's hoping that Gruden follows through on this lawsuit and doesn't settle for the millions the NFL will surely offer to prevent their secret dealings from being revealed to the public.

An NFL Lawsuit That's Not Going Away

I don't often root for St. Louis but in this case I really am. NFL braces for billion-dollar exposure in St. Louis litigation.

Couple this with the increasing outrage over the NFL's handling of the WFT investigation (and ahem "cover-up") and the question has to be asked, "Has Roger Goodell handled anything correctly during his tenure?"

The NFL Scandal That's Not Going Away

Ex-Washington Football Team employees' letter hand delivered at owners meeting, urging the NFL to release their investigation report. "The NFL should not be allowed to encourage employees to come forward at great personal risk to speak to investigators, only to sweep the results of that investigation under the rug." So very true. Why would anyone associated with the NFL trust Roger Goodell at this point?

The NFL offices released reports in the Bountygate and Deflategate investigations. No matter how flawed those reports were - they were released. Why no release of the report in this situation? It stinks of a cover-up. How can Jon Gruden be the only person to lose their job here?

And speaking of Gruden - his potential legal action against the league keeps looking better and better by the day.

The Jon Gruden Email Saga

Have a new article up at Substack where  I try to explain why this is happening now.

And where I may have completely buried the lead on what will happen next. This has the feel of Roger Goodell's NFL Offices wanting their own HBO drama.

This was the sort of longer pieces I've stopped writing here over the years but also the type of writing that I think stretches and strengthens the writing muscles.

As always if you enjoy the piece please hit the like button and subscribe. Most importantly if you enjoyed the writing or the argument made - please share it with others.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

After DeSean Jackson's anti-Semitic tweets what's the odds that Roger Goodell caves and requests all NFL teams play the Israeli national anthem prior to week one games too? Hell why not also add Rule Britannia to pander to the London crowd while we're at it?... "If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales." - Albert Einstein. This quote is why my favorite gift to new parents is always The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne. Reading to your child from the very start is so very important... I wonder how many people who were on the fence about playing fantasy football this year were pushed over the edge to "never again" by DeSean Jackson's Hitler comments... Wonder if the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will sue the leadership of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) to prevent them from using or trademarking the acronym. Just like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) did to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) back in the day. The wrestlers were forced to go with WWE instead...  Oh this is so great in a "its funny because its true!" sort of way. They should have added what the costs are for The Great Courses Plus or Master Class just for added emphasis...

OK I'll Say It

Colin Kaepernick hasn't played in the NFL since the 2016 season. That season he started 11 games for San Francisco and the 49ers went 1-10 with Kaepernick as the starter.

1-10.

There's many reasons why Kaepernick hasn't played in the NFL in years and yes him kneeling during the National Anthem in protest is part of why he's been unemployed. Nobody should deny that. But that's not the sole reason.

Kaepernick probably saw himself as a starting QB not a back-up. NFL coaches and GM's probably disagreed. Kaepernick may have also wanted to be paid like a starting QB. And since he's been unemployed for three years I'm guessing coaches and GM's disagreed with him there too.

And the kneeling was controversial. What NFL coach wanted that controversy and distractions in their locker room when they are trying to win games? No NFL coach that I'm aware of.

And who knows if Kaepernick even wants to play football anymore. Doug Flutie and Warren Moon were denied opportunity to prove themselves in the NFL for different reasons. But they wanted to play so they took opportunities to play in the CFL in Canada where they showed they were NFL caliber QB's. But Kaepernick was not interested in playing in the CFL.

Now NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he encourages a team to sign Kaepernick. But that would be up to the teams. Really Roger? If you really want that outcome I'll tell you how to do it.

First you say that any team who signs Kaepernick gets an extra roster spot for the year so that Kaepernick would not be taking a spot away from another player. Second you award the team that signs Kaepernick a compensatory draft pick between the first and second rounds of the draft. That's a BIG incentive. But the team that signs him has to carry him on the roster for a full year. I can't see the Players Association having a problem with these conditions

Two simple incentives guaranteed to get a team to sign him. But you won't do that Roger will you?

It's a farce but nobody will come out and say it.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If I had three wishes from a genie my first would to have the exact same hoax but instead of Jussie Smollett as the "victim" it would be Roger Goodell. (I have a strange sense of humor)... The German remake of Kids in the Hall looks woke as fuck!... Evidence of society getting lazier; in the 1950's it was called "pornographic movies", in the 70's shortened to "porno's", today just "porn". In 20-years it will be just "p"... Not all heroes wear capes... I get the sneaking suspicion that now that the Steelers have let Le'Veon Bell walk as a free agent, they will first trade Antonio Brown, and then just before training camp Ben Roethlisberger will decide he wants to retire. Somehow that's the way I think things will work out...  Finally some information from the Internet you can actually use - How much boobs weigh in animal terms... Raiders of the Lost Ark is now considered a classic? Man that makes me feel old...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

GMC should come out with a special edition Denali that would only be available in Ohio but called the McKinley (too obscure?)... Heh Heh... I still firmly believe that the NFL would have been much better off if all those years ago instead of hiring Roger Goodell they got a mannequin in a suit and piped in H. Jon Benjamin's voice whenever the Commissioner needed to "speak"...  Cloudzilla!... Not to belittle the damage or human suffering in any way but it seems that we have reached a point where we gauge the severity of a hurricane's damage by whether Waffle House closes and if the death toll is higher than the average gun deaths of a weekend in Chicago... Call me a cynic but I think one reason Dianne Feinstein pulled this stunt on Judge Kavanaugh was to hopefully get people to forget her driver for 20-years was a Chinese spy... For the record I'm 100% wait and see on the Pats acquiring Josh Gordon. When New England acquired Corey Dillion and Randy Moss I was on board right away. This feels different...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Roger Goodell believes climate change is real. And he blames Tom Brady for it... How Spygate is causing some lifelong Democrats to leave their party... Growing up Catholic if a priest said a mass in an hour he was a "good" priest. If he consistently finished in 45 minutes he developed a cult following... Good news for Red Sox fans and bad news for Yankees fans... "The best place to store extra food is in the belly of a friend" - African proverb... Still say Keith Olbermann and Milhouse from the Simpsons were separated at birth... Praise the Lord! I've now been stigmata free for over 40-years!...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

So Roger Goodell reportedly offered to let Tom Brady off for Deflategate if Brady agreed to throw McNally and Jastremski under the bus. Brady refused to ruin the lives of two innocent men. Fuck you Roger Goodell you are a despicable human... Very cool wildlife photos.... Is it just me or does it seem that CNN's Jim Acosta actually creates more content for Fox News than for his own network?... And speaking of Brady - today in an obvious attempt to troll the media President Trump will announce he's changing the name of the James Brady Press Briefing Room to the Tom Brady Press Briefing Room of Excellence in honor of Trump's favorite QB's birthday... New eye drops could repair corneas and make eye glasses a thing of the past... Can it be argued that e-evidence will follow existing extradition treaties? If so I'd look to countries that don't have extradition treaties with the US to become cloud service hotspots...

The NFL and the National Anthem

Here's the NFL's new National Anthem policy. It has set off a wave of criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. The funny thing is that the new NFL policy is really no different that the NBA's policy that has been in place for two decades.

Why the major difference between how the media and the public view the two policies? Simple - the NBA is led by a competent CEO and not by a clown.

Roger Goodell is the recurring painful rectal itch of sports commissioners. You wouldn't see these multiple recurring unforced errors coming from the NBA, MLB or NHL. Yet the NFL under Goodell indefensible decisions have become the norm and not the exception. No wonder average fans are turning against the NFL in droves.

There's a reason President Trump took aim at the NFL. He took the measure of Goodell and knew he could play him. Like a fiddle.

This all started because back-up QB Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the anthem to support BLM (Black Lives Matter). Roger Goodell and the NFL took no action. Then the Cowboys wanted to honor slain police officers. Roger Goodell and the NFL said no. Goodell made everything worse not better (by a wide margin). Meanwhile at the same time in the NBA - Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks honor slain police. Once again the difference is the NBA is not led by a clown.

I think many, if not most football fans today root FOR their team (like how I root for the Patriots) and AGAINST the NFL (and that clown Roger Goodell). This explains why ratings for Monday Night Football and especially the Thursday Night games featuring crappy match-ups are down. People aren't rooting for or watching the NFL the way they did in the past in general.

The exception to this is people who have bet on the games. Yes these degenerates (me included) will watch these games because they literally have a rooting interest. Same is true to a degree for fantasy football players (who I consider a form of lesser degenerate). Gambling will "save" the NFL in the short run because simply football is the best sport to bet on. But there's no guaranty that will always be the case.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Do you think you'll see any Goodell Clown Nose T-shirts on TV Sunday night? You know some Patriots fans will be wearing them in the stands. Would make a good Super Bowl prop bet. I'd put the over/under at 1.5.. The power of compounding and the destructive power of taxes all in one image... Spicy Merkin Relics would be a good name for a Violent Femmes cover band... These "kids" grew up knowing Tom Brady was the GOAT...  According to Hammurabi's Code the fetus of a "superior" woman was worth 10 shekels of silver. Don't think it mattered whether the fetus was 20 weeks old or not... Heh heh... Stephen King was innocently out walking one day when he was hit by a car on the back roads of Maine. The "accident" almost killed or crippled him for life and he spent months in the hospital to recover. In his mind I would what sort of evil deeds he's done to deserve such karma?...
