Elon Musk, Donald Trump, JD Vance and Presidential Politics

Motto of Google used to be "Don't be evil" but since they ditched it - maybe it could become the motto for Elon Musk's proposed new political party or the existing Republican Party? Or a combination of the two?

Unless you've been living under a rock you're probably aware that Elon Musk's and Donald Trump's bromance has spit over support of the Big Beautiful Bill and the potential increase of the national debt. Musk has gone as far as proposing a new political party - the American Party. But now he's reportedly backtracked on that and may support VP JD Vance in 2028.

On Substack I propose that it could be that pro business JD Vance is the bridge over this political gulf. This isn't impossible - remember JD Vance was once an ardent opponent of Trump but is now his VP.

More Linky Links

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- JD Vance predicts a lot of people will get indicted over Russiagate. Good!

- From the archives: Habits vs. Goals.

- Mystery of Atlantis deepens as discovery on ocean floor hints at ancient catastrophe. The Younger Dryas!

- Jonathan Turley: Media outlets criticized for false story on JD Vance. Compare this false story to the amount of space spent by the media on an actual bag of cocaine found at the Biden White House.

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Why cutting government spending is so tough in the first place. Sadly true.

- The USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) got bumped (ugly). I agree both that it's worrying that a new low-tech targeting method may have been revealed and that even if they are targets we need more aircraft carriers.

- The leadership grace of coach Buzz Williams. Good advice!

- Jonathan Turley: Critics prove Vance's point on anti-free speech movement. The pro free speech message needs to be repeated as often and as loudly as possible.

VP JD Vance's Munich Speech

If you've been paying attention you have heard many of his points before but the fact the he said them to the very faces of the European leaders took courage and was historic. It was all common sense but many of these leaders have been sadly lacking it.

- Here is Vance's speech in full.

- VDH on the snarky Europeans reaction to Vance's speech. He's not wrong.

- Jonathan Turley: Vance delivers historic defense of free speech in Europe,

- Europe's response has become a joke.

The Vetting of Tim Walz Begins in Earnest

The vast majority of Americans polled (71%) say they weren't familiar with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. That's quickly being remedied. Now you have to wonder if a new VP candidate will be chosen at the upcoming DNC convention in Chicago.

- Stolen valor? The retired Command Sergeants of the Minnesota National Guard basically call Walz a coward who quit rather than serve active duty in Iraq. Remember this whenever anyone calls him an Iraq vet. The letter states, "literally no one quits the position he was in, or quits the academy. Except him." basically calling him a coward not worthy of respect.

- JD Vance on Tim Walz. Can't wait for that debate.

- The widow of slain Minnesota policemen Josh Owen told Tim Walz not to attend her husband's funeral. "I don't appreciate people that don't support law enforcement."

- Tim Walz record on abortion is not something to be proud of.

- More on Tim Walz' military service.

- Tim Walz and Covid

- Minnesota resident Michele Tafoya on Tim Walz.

Some Kamala Memes You May Enjoy

Many a truth is said in jest. (Sorry - not sorry.)

- I'm an awful person for laughing at the comparison

- Weird

- Funny because it's true!

- All I want for Christmas is for Pete Buttigieg to be named VP

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Glenn Reynolds on JD Vance, the New York Times, and Decency. "A grotesque breach of human decency" indeed! Shame on the NY Times (but they have no shame).

- Nancy Pelosi's security aides received warning about breach of Capital before Jan 6th.

- Noah Smith on why did the US miss the battery revolution? Agree that the US is playing catch-up but disagree that government should be involved. Do think e-bikes may be future of urban transportation.

- Is "Bridge Editing" more powerful than CRISPR? Messing with Mother Nature makes me nervous.

- Olympics' Last Supper debacle. "If you simply understand 'woke' as a synonym for 'stupid and crazy' you won't go far wrong."

- Is Kamala Harris the show VEEP come to life?

- JD Vance and the emerging counter-elite. (HT Cultural Offering)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Tyler Cowen on the changes of vibes - how did they happen? The list goes on and on.

- Assassination attempts, Spin, Accountability, & and a Culture on Untruth. Think lack of accountability would be more accurate.

- Do your job is great life advice (as long as you understand what your job is and also follow the other bullet points)

- Can JD Vance's Populist Crusade Succeed? Wanting lower taxes, smaller government, legal immigration and being anti-illegal immigration is not "populist" but being pro-common sense. Big difference. I too recommend Marc and Ben's podcast but make up your own mind. I thought they made some good points.
