If I were put in charge - here's my Top 5 Changes I'd make to higher ed.
1. Get rid of any classes that need to have either "Science" or "Studies" added to the course title. It's not "Political Science" - it's "Politics." You don't say "History Science." And any course that adds "Studies" is not really giving you an education for the most part it's giving you an indoctrination instead.Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

The tragedy of modern German [pre WW II] is an object-lesson in the dangers of allowing academic life to become politicized and professors to proclaim their 'commitment.' Whether the bias is to the Left or Right the results are equally disastrous for in either case the wells of truth are poisoned.

The growth of administrators at Yale is out of control. Increase in tuition charges leads to the hiring of more, and more administrators. Which leads to an increase in tuition charges. "Yale's administrators today exceeds the number of faculty - 5,066 compared to 4,937." That's mind blowing to me.
All these administrators have created competing fiefdoms and none of these fiefdoms are interested in giving up personnel or power. The expansion of the medical facilities is a valid explanation for some of the growth but this is ridiculous. And there is ZERO evidence that this has led to a better educational experience. Actually the opposite as these power hungry fiefdoms have led to a series of controversies at the university.
Yale may be past the point of no return. Perhaps at this point they should just change the school mascot from the bulldog to the Vogon (too obscure?).
MIT abandons its mission - caves to woke culture and cancel culture. Cowards!

"I mostly just wanted to do my science and not have anyone yell at me," that's the attitude which is so dangerous to even the hard sciences today. And when the Professor spoke up - getting cancelled was the sad reality.

- Why I am Suing UCLA. Higher ed is a mess. Much of the problem resides in middle-management bureaucrats who bring nothing to the table except costs. Hope he takes UCLA for millions.
- Think calling the vaccine booster shot a "third, guaranteed lethal injection" is a bit much but the anecdotal evidence is troubling. And keep in mind there's no legal repercussions to Pfizer if that third shot is lethal to someone. (HT American Digest)

- VDH: American Universities have lost their prestige. "Bachelor of Arts degree, is no guarantee that a graduate can speak, write or communicate coherently or think inductively." Students are definitely not getting their money's worth.
- A third of Basecamp's workers resign after ban on talking politics. "Some employees are relieved, other are infuriated, and that pretty well describes much of the public debate around this too." If some employees were relieved that's evidence of an uncomfortable working environment. Those who are infuriated are they upset they can no longer force their views on those who are now relieved? Basecamp is much better off and will be so much better when all the Karens resign in protest.
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
Why a second opinion is always valuable: if you know a lot of nurses and doctors and see the mistakes they make in their personal lives - you may rightly question their judgement. Why assume the same folks are perfect all the time in their medical diagnosis?... Wait - Cirque du Soleil is owned by the Chinese now? Not 100% ownership but enough to cross them off my list of things I'd pay to see... Heh Heh... If the Chinese do start seizing Western assets and companies as some have predicted - I wonder what would happen if they tried to seize the Tesla Gigafactory? Would Elon Musk have the ability to disable all the Tesla cars in China remotely from Texas? How great would that be?... Colleges have "shed" 10% of their employees (about 550,000) since the start of the pandemic. "Shed" seems an interesting choice of words. Normally a word associated with "unwanted" or "unnecessary" as in I "shed" 10 pounds on this new diet. Would be interesting to know the makeup of those who lost their jobs. How many were custodial or facilities, administration or professors?...
