Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- This is interesting - nuclear power is the future. No idea of the scale of that product but if small enough it reminds me of Mr. Fusion from Back to the Future

- Jury returns $2 BILLION verdict against Monsanto for couple with cancer who blamed the cancer on Roundup. Will be interesting to see if this verdict survives appeal.

- F. Scott Fitzgerald's list of things to worry about and things not to worry about

- Yesterday was Rob Gronkowski's 30th birthday. The Patriots put together a highlight reel to celebrate.

- Free Solo and Economic Growth. Interesting read.

- China loses more from this trade war. I've long had the same opinion which is why I think we'll see a Trade Agreement within 6 months.

F Scott Fitzgerald and the Great Gatsby

Interesting look into the life and finances of writer F Scott Fitzgerald.

His masterpiece The Great Gatsby (which has now twice been been made into a major motion picture - what a strange phrase that is - have you ever heard a movie described as a minor motion picture?) was published in 1925. According to Fitzgerald's notes and ledgers - he made $18,333.61 for that year. That would be roughly $250,000 in today's dollars.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Heh heh - Harry Shearer got fooled by fake congressman from non-existent congressional district. I love the fact that there was not just a fake twitter account for the fake congressman but also one for his "Chief of Staff".

- This week would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday. Here's the story of when Donald Rumsfeld met the King.

- After seeing this - I'm guessing Peter King won't be getting an interview from either coach in today's 4:30 game.

- Funny - Nick Dipaulo's Mitch Hedberg story

- Heh heh

- Holy crap what a shot!

- Definitely lost some respect for Mark Jackson after reading this

The Great Gatsby

I have read F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby a few times. The first time was for an English class. The next two times because Ernest Hemingway spoke so highly of the book I was sure I was missing something. Each time reading the book felt like a chore to be finished.

I agree completely with this review of the book The Great Gatsby - it just doesn't do anything for me.

For books about the same period in time - give me John Steinbeck's Cannery Row or Hemingway's A Moveable Feast (even though this book wasn't actually published till 1964 - three years after Hemingway's suicide).

I have no desire whatsoever to see the movie.
