Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
The Red Sox post-season magic number now stands at 9... If they ever made a live-action Sponge Bob movie - Ben Kingsley would be my choice to play Squidward... Dr. J and John Havlicek, shirtless and wearing sombreros... Just saying but the big problem for the Jets has been turnovers. Tim Tebow never turned over the ball... If I were President - I would make Bill Belichick my Press Secretary. Those White House briefings would be epic!.... By the same token - Bill Belichick should get Hodor to fill in for him at Patriots press conferences. Same amount of information but more entertaining... Is Carlos Beltran a Hall of Famer? How did Bernie Williams do on the HoF ballot? Oh yeah - that's right...
No, Carlos Beltran isn't a Hall of Famer - today. However, I don't consider Bernie Williams being dropped from the ballot after one cycle as having any relation to Beltran's case. There are some superficial similarities between their careers, but about same number of games, Beltran is well ahead of Williams in the counting stats a gap which will only widen as he intends to play another couple years. Beltran won't be a slam dunk, but he will have a much more credible HoF case than Williams. Most important thing for Beltran is to keep playing to delay his entry to the HoF ballot. Next few years will have well over ten legitimate HoF candidates and some guys who should get serious consideration will fall off the ballot after one look. Consider Kenny Lofton getting less than 5% last year then look at next years ballot. 500 homers and 3,000 hits may not be enough to keep Palmiero on the ballot.
