Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Dreading seeing either a pumpkin spice coffee or beer being advertised. You know it's coming any day now. It makes me sad because pumpkin spice products normally signal the end of summer but by the same token also usually means the start of football... Amusing to see Tim Tebow referred to as "former outfielder for the Birmingham Rumble Ponies, Tim Tebow"... The book I'd like to read is a fictional autobiography of Huggy Bear from Starsky and Hutch. First person style just like the book Grendel by John Gardner... Thinking of adopting the phrase "Pax et bonum" as my all-purpose greeting. It translated as "Peace and all good" and I think it could be used the same way Hawaiians use "Aloha"... Four Dimensional Symmetry would be a good name for a blog... Richard Feynman, one of the top 5 minds of the 20th century, was tested in high school as having an IQ of 125. Goes to show you what IQ tests are worth...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Greatly amused with all the anger and hatred directed at Tim Tebow and the Jacksonville Jaguars for signing him as a tight end. Why they did it is clear - Tebow remains very popular and can sell tickets for the Jags. Since his signing Tebow actually has the top selling jersey in the NFL - more jerseys sold than either Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady. Not bad for a guy lucky to take the last roster spot on the team...  Heh Heh... Speaking of Tom Brady - he actually has more career rushing TD's (25) than running back teammate Leonard Fournette (23). Just find that interesting... I hope the young people who voted for Joe Biden because they believed his pledge to cancel their student debt have learned an important life lesson about trusting a politician (but I'm not holding my breath)... It may be just me but I really don't miss the days when it seemed like Bono from U2 was either called on to comment or felt the need to speak up on seemingly every socio-political issue of the day. He's kind of faded into the woodwork which is fine with me... Would love to see the New England Patriots trade for Julio Jones. Wonder if an offer of a second round pick along with receiver N'Keal Harry would be enough to get it done?...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The more I think about it the more I think the NFL will put a Saturday night schedule of games out to bid make up the revenue shortfall from a lack of in-person ticket sales this season. There will be many bidders... "Civil rights used to be about treating everyone the same. But today some people are so used to special treatment that equal treatment is considered to be discrimination." - Thomas Sowell... Just asking but when's the last time you heard Bernie Bros or any Democrats for that matter arguing we should be more like Sweden... It is so wrong that I laughed at this... Many scientists are going to look silly when it is discovered that the only natural cure for COVID-19 are the sweat and tears of Tim Tebow (blessed be his name)... Speaking of scientists who look silly - if people knew back in March that most models from "experts" would be off by a factor of 20 then all nations would have followed the Swedish model. Is anyone who has stats to back themselves up arguing otherwise?... Just saying but a while back the New York Times printed a story alleging Russian bounties on US soldiers but the NYT has yet to offer a shred of actual evidence backing their claim. The New York Times simply has no shame...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Southern California and North Korea have roughly the same populations (about 24 million) and it could honestly be argued that Southern Cal actually is the bigger existential threat to America... What was the worse preseason bet - Mitch Trubiski as NFL MVP or Kyrie Irving as NBA MVP? (Note just asking I didn't make either of those dumb wagers)...  The 9 most badass Bible verses... It should be remembered that perhaps the main reason ESPN purged itself of any politics a while back was to protect the launch of their new streaming service Disney+ (they didn't want to give any excuse for half the country to not want to buy a Disney product). It's amusing that many who loudly decried the "muzzling" of people like Jemelle Hill at the time are the same people who remained oddly silent over Daryl Morey's right to free speech when it came to the NBA and China... When I find myself in times of trouble or doubt I ask "What would Tim Tebow do?" and the path is made clear... I don't own any sports jerseys (because I'm a friggin adult) but I might make an exception for a Number 6...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- How can you not root for Tim Tebow? Coaches everywhere at every level should play this message to their kids.

- The TWA Hotel looks wicked cool

- I'm also rooting for Tim Dillard (but obviously for different reasons)

- Is it time to purchase a WiFi 6 router? For most people the answer is definitely no. If you do need to upgrade you may want to just do an 802.11ac router (aka WiFi 5) on which pricing should be coming down.

- Heh Heh

- Interesting - Volvo is now exporting cars to Europe from the US (from their plant in South Carolina)

- What a catch!

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary (or in the Kardashian family)... FDA puts brakes on major CRISPR trial on humans... Disco Hagrid would be a good name for an ABBA cover band... Cool - the world's smallest surgical robot is almost ready for the operating room... In my opinion the self-serve waffle machine is the biggest advancement in the hospitality industry in the past half-century... 24 daily habits that will make you smarter (though I would have listed #24 as #1)... Congrats to Tm Tebow on dating Miss Universe . None of my business but has anyone asked him if he's still a virgin? seems a waste to be dating Miss Universe and still be a virgin...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

When the outrage over Justice Kennedy retiring dies down, President Trump should announce that he's turning the White House Press Briefing Room back into a swimming pool. Can you imagine how well the MSM would take that news?.. I'm still convinced that Peyton Manning and his brother Eli only work out using Shake Weights... It's funny because it's so true... Idea for a movie - Zombie Inventory Takers. The undead converge on a local mall to take inventory... The stuff nightmares are made of - the insect that sucks his prey dry and then wears the corpses of his victims... Have the "TRUMP/PENCE 2020 - No Fat Chicks" bumper stickers been printed up yet?... Looks like the attendance poor Mets are planting the seeds of a September Tim Tebow call-up...

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Anyone familiar with this browser called Brave? Tim Ferris is trying it out but curious if anyone else has (I hesitate to move off of Google Chrome)

- How can you not like Tim Tebow?

- New study says fracking does not impact water supplies.

- Space trash is one of my secret concerns.

- Interesting

- Knick's center Enes Kanter's father indicted in Turkey on "terrorism" charges. Enos Kanter is prohibited from returning to Turkey. Terrorism is in scare quotes because this looks to be politically motivated charges.

- Good to know!

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Obviously disappointed at the Bruins losing their series to Tampa Bay yesterday. However, the team has an excellent young core of players and gives us fans reason to be hopeful for next season and beyond... No matter how many times I watch - this always cracks me up... Who knew? The last battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Palmito Ranch was a Confederate victory... I'm a fan of Tim Tebow but my gut tells me that even a September call-up by the Mets would backfire. Yes Tebow would put fannies in the seats but the back-page backlash of the cash-grab move would negate anything positive to come from it... Very cool... Modern Americans don't know either the horror that was grisly ax murders or the horror of pay toilets. I don't know which one was worse... General Eisenhower's understated message proclaiming victory in Europe from this day in 1945...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The Mets got off to a hot start this spring but come September they'll be reduced to bringing Tim Tebow up to the majors to try and put fannies in the seats... Trump does right by Ukraine... If you think about it narwhals and rainbows are much more likely than unicorns and rainbows... I'm looking for an opportunity to use the phrase that thing/guy "is more polished than the admiral's buttons". Just because... Interesting interview of Don Nelson who's living the life in Hawaii. That life includes a lot of poker and pot smoking (Willing Nelson got him smoking). Well worth the read.. Heh heh... And it's "Ukraine" not "the Ukraine". You wouldn't say "the Canada" or "the Ireland". Common mistake...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Have we reached the point where the question "What did Scott Baio know and when did he know it?" needs to be asked?... Wow... Just a reminder - Joe Biden is an anagram for "I need a job"... I think this is spot on... Bill Nye is a scientist the same way Russell Crowe is a gladiator... Heh heh... Baseball rumor - Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is considering trading Giancarlo Stanton to the Yankees for cash considerations. A lot of cash considerations... Yeah about that glacier the size of Manhattan that busted off today... Still think that the Mets missed a huge PR opportunity by not having Tim Tebow represent the team at the HR Derby the other night...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Fire Grilled Turtles - band name or hipster entree?... Impressive!... Does it bother anyone else that nobody in the press seemed to ask where Syria got the poison gas in the first place? Didn't George W. Bush say that Iraq sent some of theirs into Syria to avoid inspectors? Why isn't that a bigger story?... Heh heh... Cult of Inhibitions - band name or all-inclusive resort?... This is going to put Match.com out of business... Just a reminder that one of the reasons the Broncos ran Josh McDaniels out of Denver was because he traded clubhouse cancer Jay Cutler... Sex Melon - band name or hipster cocktail?... I love the fact that Steelers fans have to live with the fact that Tim Tebow beat them in the playoffs...

Protest

The Boston Celtics showed "unity" in locking arms last night during the national anthem prior to the first pre-season game in Amherst, MA. The Los Angeles Lakers are also locking arms during the anthem.

I have no problem at all with these protests. They aren't exactly anything new under the sun though. Here's the 1960-61 Boston Celtics team photo - making a statement of civil rights equality.

As I've said before - I also don't have a problem with Colin Kaepernick doing this. What I do have a problem with is many of the same sports writers and sports talking heads defending and praising Kaepernick are the same ones who knocked or belittled Tim Tebow for doing this. Both players silently kneeling - one in protest and one in thanks.

I would love to have a scorecard for the hypocrites on this so I'd be better informed of which voices to mute.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I can understand Tim Tebow having a dream of playing pro baseball but can you imagine how much Social Media would have melted down if Tebow announced he was trying out for the WWE instead?... Jay Cutler ladies and gentlemen... Next challenge for Michael Phelps - cage match vs ManBearPig...  It makes me sad that so many NFL fans today associate the Patriots uniform number 81 with Aaron Hernandez and not All-World tight end Russ Francis... So true... So wasn't Mike Lombardi supposed to have signed with Bill Simmons and The Ringer by now? There must be more to the story of why he wasn't retained by Bill Belichick and the Patriots... Speaking of Michael Phelps - how Americans watch men's swimming...
