Challenger Disaster
On this day in 1986 the space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after launch. One of the very few times in my life where I could tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing.
I was walking by the Student Union at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I didn't see it live but joined the crowd of people just staring dumbfounded at the TV showing replays and commentary.
I was walking into the Union at the University of Illinois Champaign, and I heard the radio broadcasting over the loudspeakers.
