Rick Hall really was an American original and I highly recommend the documentary Muscle Shoals which goes through Rick Hall's story and the influence he had on American music. I've watched the flick a few times which is the highest compliment I can pay a video.
If you enjoy that movie and music in general - I would also recommend The Wrecking Crew (which was kind of the West Coast Muscle Shoals) and also Sound City (which documents much of modern rock from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana).
Thank you for a life well lived Mr. Hall. RIP.
