The above is the opening paragraph of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Became a fan of the book and author, who would have celebrated a birthday yesterday, in high school. As I got older I became less of a fan of the man but still enjoy the work. Say what you will but Hunter S. Thompson is gone too soon.
i was there with his giant somaon lawyer. a month later left newport to head overseas to my first ship. rapidly left hunter in my wake. Oh, and I really ddin't like the illustrator. That guy was crap.
ReplyDeleteRalph Steadman is an acquired taste. One I never acquired.
ReplyDeleteSaw him in college and he was late and drunk. We thought it was charming. Looking back it was the act of an egotistical asshole.
But still love some of his books.
